It seems like I give the "thumbs up" to more rock eMusic free daily downloads than I do to other genres. I do believe that I may have a bias for rock music over other genres. Or, maybe it's just that eMusic posts more of that genre than other genres. Or, maybe the rock music that they post is just better, for some reason, than that of other genres . . . .

At any rate, I'm giving today's free eMusic download a (belated) "thumbs up." It sounds very good--just short of great--to me.

I gotta another great classical music freebie for you. It's the weekly Classical-music.com selection.

This week's free download is the Allegro from Sibelius's String Quartet in D minor, 'Intimate Voices'. Performed by the Ehnes Quartet, the recording received a four star review in the February issue of BBC Music Magazine.

'Sibelius's fast movements are viscerally exciting from the Ehnes Quartet,' writes Helen Wallace,' their sound frost-dry, especially in the fast passagework of the Allegro finale.'

To summarize: Ehnes Quartet play Sibelius 'Intimate Voices'--Allegro. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to learn from Classical-music.com the name of the albums from which the free pieces come so, sorry, but I can't furnish that information for you. I don't even know the name of the publisher.

The piece is 5 minutes, 26 seconds, or thereabouts, long. You can get it in any format that you want, as long as the format that you want is MP3. ha

If you are signed up and logged in, proceed to this webpage to download it. If you don't see a bright red "Download Now" button superimposed over the thumbnail of the album cover, something went wrong. If you do see it, click on it and the download will begin immediately.

I love the piece. It's lively. Amazingly, I liked the violin part most of all. I didn't know someone could play a violin as fast as these gentlemen/ladies do in this quartet.

Okay, I am officially P.O.'d. at ArchivMusic. I signed up to get their emails, and get them all of the time. Yet, I got nary a word from them about the following freebie and had to find out from a third party about it.

Well, I guess that I should be glad that I did, at least, find out about it. And, it is a great offer.

Here's the deal. First of all, it's not completely free, if you count the 2 minutes or so that you have to spend completing a survey.

It is Rossini, G.: Overtures (Complete), Vol. 4 (Prague Sinforia, Benda [that means that Prague Sinforia performsand someone named Benda directs, G}). You may notice that among the pieces on the album is the popular Barber of Seville (made famous and popular by that Bugs Bunny cartoon with it in it, no doubt. ha. That cartoon was soooooo funny! But, I digress.)!

Also, check this out. You can get the album in either MP3 or FLAC (Now, why would someone choose the MP3 album, if they could get the FLAC? Come to think of it, I can think of one reason. But, I digress, again.)!

Here's the simple process to get the free album. Navigate to this website. Complete the easy survey. After you do, click on "submit," or something like that. The next webpage will ask you for your email address so that they can send you a link to the album.

This plan is evidently called "Unlimited." It appears, from other webpages that I looked at, that this is an ad-free plan, but you'll need to check out the details for yourself. There is a button on the webpage that I'm about to give you that says "Other Plans," but I didn't check into it.

Very nice album, if you like Rossini.

If you're interested in doing some reading, maybe while you're listening to the album, there is a PDF file, within the zip file that you'll have to unzip to listen to the individual pieces, about Rossini. It has a stated 6 pages, but the text is tightly kerned, the line spacing is narrow, the margins are very narrow--in other words, a lot is packed into those 6 pages.

They have. In fact, I just canceled a 4-month promo today. I used it on my Android phones. Since it won't play with Alexa, I won't even consider it for my primary music subscription.

Which is a shame, as on my phone it is more reliable as a music service in my car. The Amazon app I have to open and press play perhaps 40% of the time, while in the last week of trying Google, I've only had to do that once. Spotify was also quite good, when I trialed it.

I have found a number of albums on G Unlimited that only let you have a song or two, much as I run into on Amazon Prime. Still, there is enough there to keep me listening until the free trial runs out.

Unlike the previous free four months, you don't have to pay for one in between, on the current offer (which I have been planning to write about, so I'll get to that, now).
