Is Amazon clairvoyant?

I've just ordered my 3rd Kindle. I lost my Paperwhite last week, and after searching all over town, I broke down and ordered a new one. Which leads to my question:

My first Kindle, an ancient keyboard, was named Kas's Kindle. The Paperwhite that I lost was named Kas's 2nd Kindle. I went online to deregister it, and wouldn't you know - another Kindle was listed - a Paperwhite named Kas's 3rd Kindle! Now this Kindle won't even arrive at my door for another few days, so how did Amazon know what I would name it, and why did they do it? Is this weird? Or have others seen this happen?

It automatically names them in numerical order unless you change the name to something else. Nothing clairvoyant about it. They register them for you if you buy from them.

I've had the same experience with my many Kindles and yet I'm not truly convinced Amazon isn't clairvoyant. They seem to know everything!

What you have discovered is computers can count.

Yes indeed, a simple algorithm that adds a subsequent number after the user's name + device type.

User's Name/ID + Subsequent Number + Device Type = Kas's 3rd Kindle

When I registered my new iPad Pro 9.7 with a Kindle app a couple of months ago, it knew I already had registered an iPad Mini 2, so it called the Pro:

User's Name/ID + Subsequent Number + Device Type = Jack's 2nd iPad

Yes--If Amazon knew that I wanted to name my device something like "Dor's voyage-her best reader yet" and actually named it that before I had a chance to enter the name myself, I would accuse Amazon of being clairvoyant, but simply naming my new Voyage as Dor's 3rd Kindle--not so much.

They do enough data mining of you and your Kindle's use that one could easily think they are clairvoyant.

It is much simpler than that, they are using the Kindle as an access port to channel into your mind.
