Those scripts you ran from the 'hotfix' package -
I **think** NiLuJe wrote them to run properly from the 'Diags' system, but they would still be changing the 'Main' system.

While running the 'Diags' system, the 'Main' system is normally not even mounted, but the scripts would have taken care of that detail.

That is just what you needed, I had forgotten about it because it is a fairly rarely used feature.
Probably less than ten people have ever needed to use it.

Yes, that is more or less what the rescue pack is all about, a "last chance safety net" for general repairs of things that went wrong.

Normally only used by developers (who are often 'bricking' the 'main' system during application development).

But with the advent of the **features** of 5.8.8, maybe it should become a recommended thing to install.
As in, a new **Step 9**

Anything that makes it *more* brick proof would be a sensible recommendation to install. It costs very little to install the rescue pack, considering the value it adds. Most hacks that I have experience with, eg Luma on 3DS, Bootmii on Wii, have low level menu's to try and deal with recovering from bricks. Admittedly, the Kindle is pretty hard to brick until you start messing with the internals, but it seems like a surefire way to guarantee JB restoration in the future.

Hey Guys I have a question. If I buy a new kindle now and its running a firmware prior 5.8.8. I am not able to Jailbreak?

The Problem is:

“If you have an ad supported (Special Offers) model consider unsubscribing it at your Kindle account.
If you do unsubscribe from special offers, be sure to give your Kindle enough time on-line for Amazon's servers to update its local status files.”

To disable Special Offers, I have to register to Amazon. But If I register my kindle, I get the OTA update to 5.8.8 right? I will not be able to jailbreak any more?

You can purchase it without Special Offers to begin with.
Having Special Offers does not effect the jailbreak, but it does get in the way of recovering if something goes wrong.

Also, you can't use custom screen savers with an S.O. device.

Read Step #7, add the blocker directory name before going on-line.
That should help.

Don't dawdle on-line, do your business and get-off, the update is a large file, it takes some time to download.

You can jail break and then register the device if you wish -
some firmware versions make that more difficult, but it is a choice.

My Paperwhite is already running 5.8.8. Does it mean that jailbreak wont work since I can't downgrade it? Is there any chance to have a workaround in the future?

I didn't know that they released anything newer than 5.6.1.1 for the paperwhite.

It didn't say anything! I copy it to the Kindle root directory and the "Update Kindle" is always disabled. I connect it to my notebook and the file just disapear.

Does the table list support for your model in the right hand column?
If not, it will not work.
If you are running 5.8.8, it will not work.
If your model is not listed in the table at all, it will not work.

You can still use the serial port jail break procedure.
