Micro-USB is the new standard especially for charging. From wikipedia:

The Micro-USB connections are intended to replace the Mini-USB plugs used in new devices including smartphones and Personal digital assistants. This Micro-USB plug is rated for 10,000 connect-disconnect cycles. It is about half the height of the mini-USB connector, and features a similar width. In the Universal Serial Bus Micro-USB Cables and Connectors Specification, details have been laid down for Micro-A plugs, Micro-AB receptacles, and Micro-B plugs and receptacles, along with a Standard-A receptacle to Micro-A plug adapter. The carrier led Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) group have recently endorsed micro-USB as the standard connector for data and power on mobile devices.[15] These include various types of battery chargers, allowing Micro-USB to be the single external cable link needed by some devices.

>So who got their order in on time for the launch?

I did. I was refreshing the Amazon page during the announcement and I ordered right away. I will admit I am glad at the changes in looks and its mainly why I bought it. I was planning to sell my SOny reader because I don't need 2 readers but I like everything my kindle offers but hated that it wasn't as thin and comfortable to hold as the Sony. The kindle poked at my hands when I tried to read it out of a case and I never found a case I really liked for it as I was looking for something really light. So I do like the changes. Everything else I loved about the kindle. Especially the easy buttons presses as I think the sony buttons are a little too hard to press and I find the font size on the sony frustrating as medium more often than not is to small for my taste and large is either way to big or in some books still to small so kindle fonts always I find something that works for me which is a big reason why I like the kindle. And I have had one to many software problems with sony on my computer so I appreciate being able to download by the device when I do purchase from the store. So for me, the kindle new design was enough for me to purchase and I should be happy having just one ebook reader once I get the sony and kindle 1 sold.
