Actually, amazon already sells these via gadgets built into phone cases. . . Who knows, maybe ereader cases will follow this trend.

The following is a product description.
  • Bottle opener, Pen, Scissors
  • Polycarbonate casing
  • Philips Screwdriver, Flat-head Screwdriver
  • Kickstand, Nail File, Tweezers, Toothpick
  • TSA Compliant, 420 Marine Alloy Stainless Steel

I laughed at your post. I once made some rolls that would break a kindle. I have since learned there is a difference between a warm spot and a hot place.

If you want my meat-fall-apart, you have an open invitation.

Now for an advantage of an ebook, at least someone can't cover part of a recipe with big X labels. Just saw that one in a used cookbook I bought the other day.

Good point. A similar thing probably happened when books went from being primarily handwritten by monks to printed by a printing press. Aristocratic kids probably preferred handwritten books. For example, when a Mom asked her kids if they have finished reading their books they could respond.

"No, Mom, the monks in the back say it will take another 10 years to finish the book you asked them to copy"

After the invention of the printing press kids had to come up with other excuses not to read books.

Stone tablets were definitely more secure (much harder to steal and carry off), and fire proof to boot.

But when you dropped one, you'd better hope it wasn't on your toes, and that it didn't shatter.

Also, I hope the one you wanted was not on the top shelf.

Even that far back, publishers were windowing releases; doing the hardcovers in stone a decade before the cheaper clay tablets.

Because a scroll is a "serial access" medium - in order to read a page near the end of the scroll, you have to scroll through the whole thing to get there. The "random access" nature of the codex (book) format was the main reason it replaced scrolls.

Once you've finished reading it, you also have to rewind it before someone else can read it. Several Roman authors lamented the rudeness of readers who neglected to rewind their scrolls for the next reader.

I think an ereader would float marginally longer than a book.
