It's election day today, I plan to vote after work (luckily only half a day today).
I'm really glad it's the campaigns are over, I have been fed up with all the commercials and politicians popping up in a lot of tv programs. Though we are lucky and the campaign only lasts a couple of months. However, with a choice of almost 30 political parties (most of which won't get enough votes) it'll probably take a long time before they formed a coalition. |

We needed new business cards for the store. So on Tuesday I changed some things to the design (deleted my father's details from the back and replaced them with our opening times and consulting hour times) and ordered them. I got to choose how fast we would get them; for €10 we would get them with 3 business days, for €5 we would get them within before the end of next week and for €3 we would get them before the end of the month. Since we still have enough business cards I chose the latter. I was very surprised that yesterday we got an email confirming they were shipped. I can vaguely recall the same thing happened last time, though not this quickly. They are, however, true to their word: we will get them before the end of the month.

Taking a break from shoveling the mix of snow, slush and ice. I've got a walking path up the driveway to the street and I'm clearing the back deck. I shovel for about 15 minutes -- just until this one particular spot in my lower back tells me I've had enough -- then I come in for some tea. Repeat.
The only really big problem is the berm that the plow threw up when it made its only (and inadequate) pass up our dead end. It varies from two to three feet in height. All of the boulders of wet snow froze into ice and then fused with each other. I was able to chop enough of it away to free the cars, but I haven't cleared the mailbox yet. |

When are you due for a warm up? Can you wait till then to try to chisel away the thrown up pile of awfulness?

Temps are supposed to be in the high 30s/low 40s with nights falling back to the teens and twenties for the next week or so, but the sun is strong enough that I don't have to scrape it all -- if I can expose some blacktop the sun will dry it off.
But, right now the snow is still pretty thick (and dense). Mostly I'd say it's 6 to 8 inches deep. It's deeper on the deck because the house blocked the wind and caught the drifts. I'd expect it to last a while. I'm really only doing the minimum. Last edited by cromag; 03-16-2017 at 04:07 PM. Reason: Forgot the nights. |

My brother in PA (around Harrisburg) texted me pics of the kids playing in "about 2 feet" of snow.

Enjoying the quiet.
They have finally replaced the extractor fan system at the restaurant next to my bedroom. It was supposed to replace over a week ago, but it was still happily rumbling along, although they did turn it down early most of last week. On Tuesday the owner was in the store and we asked about it, he told us the replacement is in stock now, but he was so busy that he hadn't made an appointment to replace it yet, since he wanted to be present during the replacing. Then yesterday, silence. The restaurant was closed and in the afternoon a van of a airco company was parked in front. I didn't think much of it, they had also said the airco was going to get serviced this week and since it was election day yesterday I wouldn't be surprised that they didn't open because it wouldn't be busy enough. Today he came to tell us that the extractor fan had been replaced. Restaurants have to have a system in place that they can't cook if the extraction system isn't working properly. The old extractor had broken down in such a way that yesterday it shut off the gas supply to the cookers. Which resulted in the immediate replacement to the extractor. Earlier I could only hear it if I was standing in the right place and strained my ears. Will see how it sounds during the night, when it's much quieter. Thursday night is always noisy, so I probably won't be able to judge it until my nightly bathroom break. I don't mind it if it's quietly, and regularly, humming along, the airco's at the museum on the other side next door aren't the most quiet, but make a regular sound (except it's really hot and it has a really weird cycle). |

Happy to hear it's fixed.
You want to talk about noise? They are replacing the parking lot in front of my bedroom. It started with hours of jackhammers then mini dozer, then picking up all the broken stuff. It then went to scraping like nails on a chalkboard. Hours of scraping. Today more scraping then installing rebar and finally the cement truck pouring the concrete and more sounds of scraping. Still not done. It has to dry, area be cleaned and new parking lines drawn. Oh the noise! I can't hear myself think.Sent from my XT1528 Last edited by Blossom; 03-16-2017 at 07:38 PM. |

On noises, I have noticed if a noise is consistent, you learn to tune it out. But by the same token, if it disappears you notice the silence. I lived near a big airport on 9/11.
Talk about quiet. |

However the worst noise was every Halloween the fire practice house across the street was turned into a haunted house so for two weeks straight it was like living in a theme park with thousands of people everywhere. That's not to mention screams, horror soundtrack and all the lighting. Maisy hated it. My lawn was littered with people and oh they were noisy. Looking back I don't know how I survived it. It was before I discovered audiobooks. It was so loud no wonder I developed a temporary panic disorder while living there. Sent from my Nexus 7 |

What is funny, when I lived in another town, one place I lived was at the end of the north south runway. When I moved I wound up at the end of the east west runway. East west had many more planes. Now I live in the middle of town. Neighbor noise is what gets to me. Some want to boom their basses. |
