It is possible that Amazon/Lab126 has managed to defeat this jailbreak process. I suggest that you hold off on doing anything else just yet, give the world of Kindle users time to make other reports on 5.8.8. I would like to read some more attempts by people on other devices before I change the "on any known firmware version" phrase of the top post. Notes: *) I don't have a PW-2 to use in confirming this observation. *) The 5.8.8 firmware update is being pushed to all PW-2 and newer models (all of the i.MX6 devices, older devices are not being updated). *) There is another (not documented as such) jailbreak method available for some of these models, but not for all of them. (Without geekmaster and NiLuJe's help, it may never be released as a jailbreak, it is too big a job for myself working alone.) Last edited by knc1; 03-09-2017 at 09:28 AM. |

![]() I'm pretty sure that I download the correct factory image for my PW2 since it has a very different version other than PW1 or PW3 (the version for PW2 is 5.4.3.2) I also checked the md5, and it was matched with the original md5 file as well. Therefore, I guess that either Amazon put some extra effort for the PW2 models, or my model did not meet the requirement, but I did everything in the pre-requisite steps, including unsubscribing from special offers. |

It's a shame that you only decided to jailbreak after this very latest release... (almost) any time during past years and you would have had success!

I have also this problem.
I've tried on my 5.8.8 pw2 (B05A model) but the downgrade process did not work. |

I updated the top post.
At least until people owning models other than the PW-2 and PW-3 have a chance to report success. |

Have a PW3 running 5.8.8. JB & hotfix were installed while on 5.7.4 per the guide. I tried unsubscribing from the special offers but they seem to be stuck on?
Is it safe to un-register and re-register while on 5.8.8? Or will that kill the "bridge" code? |

Other than that, anything else is alright. Now would be a good time to leave the device on-line long enough for Amazon's servers to update its special offers status. If it doesn't update the so status in a day, contact CS (again), while the device is on-line. |

I left it online for a day and nothing changed.
Tempted to just unregister / reregister. Registration shouldn't touch the JB or bridge or SSHD right? |

Hi guys.
I'm experiencing some issues with this jailbreak. I had a pw2 (9017) running firmware version 5.7.0.1 (I think) and used the now downgrade to go back to 5.4.3.2. I then tried to install KUAL using the ".azw3 in documents folder" method, which didn't work, all I got was "application can't run" or something of the sort. Then I installed it using the bin file and it worked, allowing me to run the jailbreak and screensaver hack. I would have been happy to stay on 5.4.3.2, but for some reason I couldn't connect to the internet and download my books from cloud. It did connect to wifi and seemed to be working, but whenever I hit the sync items button it would show "connecting" in the top left and then do nothing. So, seeing that the jailbreak can survive the update to 5.8.8 I went to amazon and downloaded the newest firmware version. I tried running it from the KUAL MR Package Installer but it didn't work, so I did it from the root folder of the kindle instead. Now I am running firmware 5.8.8, but the Jailbreak didn't seem to have survived the update for some reason. Not only is the screensaver hack disabled, I also can't run KUAL anymore. Does anyone have an idea of what I did wrong? Should I try doing the entire jailbreak process from the start or am I just missing something and it is an easy fix? |

Yes, I know.
1) You did not follow all of the steps, exactly, and in-order. You took your own shortcuts, and reached your own result. 2) You tried to run firmware add-ins that where only tested and intended to be used on customer firmware builds, not intended nor tested to work on factory production line firmware. 3) You skipped the part where all packages have to be re-installed after an update (like, in, read the step #8 that you never reached) when deciding that the jailbreak was broken by the update. 4) You installed 5.8.8 firmware version that can not be jailbroken (try reading the top line of the top post). Easy fix (maybe): Re-install KUAL, Re-install MrPi, Re-run the "hotfix" (note: you have to run it from /mrpackages now that you are running a customer firmware build. But due to the things you skipped when you jail broke it, the above may not fix it, you may just have to buy a Kindle that isn't running 5.8.8 (and follow the directions this time). |
