I don't have a Max. My comment was for 4.4 and sd cards. I have T68+ & M96+, on both of which I installed 4.4, root, and xposed.

On a 4.0.4 tablet I probably either installed the special busybox that xposed recommends or the Stericson BusyBox from Play Store before trying xposed.

Hello, all.

I am considering purchasing an Onyx Boox Max, and have read several of the posts here to educate myself more. I have two questions for those of you who have one:

1.) What's been your experience using the Amazon Kindle app on the Max? It seems that the app works, but is is buggy? Is it as easy as reading on an Amazon Kindle?

2.) Does owning a Mac instead of a Windows PC cause any issues? Are the updates over-the-air or do I need to connect the Max to my laptop?

1.) The app works but it's thought for tablets, so it's not the greatest user experience of all (not just with the Max, it will be the same with all eInk devices until they decide to release an app eInk friendly). So, if your aim is to just read the book, you can do that, but every page turn will be a bit weird (because it's animated and eInk screens don't handle animations well) and you will also need to set a per page screen refresh, which will drain your battery more quickly.
All in all, if you want to read books purchased from Amazon, you're better off using Calibre with the DRM strip plugin and then put the file without DRM on the Max so that you can read it.

2.) I own computers with Windows, Linux and Mac and it doesn't really matter what you use. The Max itself doesn't come with any computer software, Calibre is available for all OSes and when you connect the Max to the PC it will be recognised as a normal pen drive.
Updates are not OTA, you need to download a zip file from the Onyx website, transfer it on the Max (either internal or external SD doesn't matter) and run the update from within the Max. Again, the OS of your PC doesn't matter.

1. As far as I remember the animations in the Kindle App can be disabled. It worked fine with my Onyx devices. I don't use the app at the moment because I like and buy DRM-free e-Books but it should work.

Maybe somebody will create a video with the App on the Onyx Boox Max.

2. The device will work on the Mac as it will work on the PC. You have one or two additional drives. Updates can be copied on the system partition and you are fine.

I haven't tried On-The-Fly updates so I don't know if they work or not.

What kindle version are you using? I'm using 4.15.0.46. It seems to work fine, though slow sometimes. I think that Newsstand on newer versions works better. I haven't been able to install 7.8.0.113 from an apk. I wonder if anyone has, or which works...

Hi Andy,

please don't worry! Our website is on-line again. We had some troubles with FS of our server. Very unusual problem. After reboot FS started in read only mode and FSCK took 10 hours to repair the FS. Now everything works as expected.
We received your device just a couple of days ago and processing time is declared in our terms and conditions (up to 2 weeks). Your case will be processed ASAP .

I am looking for a way to read PDF with neo reader in two columns landscape.

I can manage to put the screen in landscape mode, but do not understand how to put two columns, one page on each column. I struggled with the Navigate menus without success.

May someone give me some hints about how to do that ?

Still waiting for dual I.MX7 processor and dual touch. Device with no touch is obsolete now.

Would the 2nd gen. MAX have both touch and pen support?

Will it have external monitor capabilities?
HDMI or DisplayPort or USB C?
Backlight?
Which version of Android?
Size of RAM?
