And yes it was a marketing ploy. A common one made when releasing a new product. What we don't know is whether Kobo will extend the full OD function to the other devices. I'll be surprised if they don't extend it to some of the other devices, but I won't be to surprised if they don't extend it to all of them. And by that I mean I would expect the H2O to get it, but not the Mini. And probably not the Touch or Glo.

of course i would have to buy one myself, i don't know anyone else who is into e-readers full stop regardless of brand or model, although perhaps if i ask Kobo or whsmith nicely they might let me borrow a KA1 for the day what do you think worth a try?

So is there a way to force the new home screen on Glo HD? Does factory resetting help?

It's random as to whether or not you get the new home screen. Some have seen different home screens after doing a factory reset. There is a patch in the patch thread that might help.

My Kobo Aura One updated to the latest firmware but I didn't get the new home screen. Also, my collections didn't sync and disappeared (they still appear in the Android Kobo app).

Overall, performance is zippier and touch sensitivity improved. Also, PDF performance improved - pinch to zoom and general navigation are more responsive. Unfortunately, we still can't highlight or annotate PDF files! I don't like using KOReader on the Aura One (it drains the battery quicker and even affects the battery in Nickel) and would rather just use Nickel, if they can just provide better PDF features.

Or, to clarify, you need to use a computer and ADE to drop an Overdrive book on old devices the same as it always has been. If you want the CONVENIENCE of borrowing on device, then yes, currently you need to buy a KA1, and yes, that currently is a marketing ploy.

Yay! I managed to correct the disappearing collections problem.

If you get this problem, the solution is simple. Go to accounts, via settings, and then sign out and sign in again.

I still don't get the new home screen but it'll probably be rolled out to more users eventually.

This has been suggested and worked for others. Another suggestion is to use the "Repair account" function in the "Device Information" screen of the settings. This effectively forces a download of all purchased books and related information and will include collections. The third way has been on a subsequent sync the collections have been redownloaded.

Unfortunately, none of these will revive the collections for sideloaded books. These are not sent to the server (the collection is, but not what sideloaded books are on it) and hence cannot be recreated by the server.

Probably, but Kobo have stated they are doing A/B testing. If enough of the people who get the new home screen don't like it, they might not roll it out further without major changes.

I've synced my Aura yesterday (big error

) and all my collections were wiped (I discovered it because the collections that the driver didn't handle weren't there after connecting it to calibre) and I had the new home screen. I sincerely hope they ask me but I think that, anyway, I'm going to send my feedback by chat

I don't know if people are aware - but the pathc forum in developers has a patch to enable/disable the new home screen.

I manually patched and updated and got the old one - then forced the new one.

Personally I like it, but I understand its horses for courses.

Its pretty simple to patch the firmware to remove it if you don't want it ;-)

Hoping they make it a setting you can togle manually and hence please everyone.
