Download the version of the firmware you want to roll back to from the links on the Mobileread wiki:

Make sure you download the correct version for your hardware. If you have an Aura H2O, you will need to download the zip file for 'Mark 5' hardware.

Once you have downloaded the firmware, install it on your Kobo by following the instructions in this post, starting at step 2.

GLO HD - Hesitated to do the update but happy that it retained the old UI. From what I've seen and heard about the new UI I'm not interested in going to a non-configurable Home screen.

Hello everyone,

I updated my KA1 and now have the new home screen. One little question - for some reason automatic brightness can't be disabled - the on/off slider works, but the backlight keeps adjusting itself to fit the current light conditions anyway.

The poster said that the PIN code made first appearance in the 4.2.8432, but that it only showed up when the firmware was installed as part of a factory reset. PIN code disappeared after the reader updated to 4.3.8842 and re-appeared after he updated again, this time with a factory reset. He has a Glo HD.

Thanks dmapr for all the info and "back-checking". Your knowledge and help is extremely appreciated. It appears now (after reading all threads) that not all HD users (or all users in general) have rec'd a new Home Screen (for that I am thankful) nor have they had any changes made to settings screens (such as a PIN codes etc.). Not sure how they are rolling this update out in regards to GUI changes for some but not for others. In any case, thanks again for your fab assistance and watchful eye.

Wow, DNSB: I have absolutely no idea how you even began to figure that one out to begin with. Wizardry of the highest order. I did a reset test and, sure enough, that's what it was. Absolutely fabulous...beyond impressed. BTW (at least for GloHD users): resetting/side-loading/post-load processing is now extremely fast since this update. For me, it's been a two steps forward/no steps back update. Thanks all for your input on this update.

I'm still waiting for an OTA update to happen. However with the last update WiFi now only connects if I'm using the browser or hit the sync button.

Two things that really annoy me with the 4x firmware.

The light gradually comes on like a CFL bulb.

The home page refreshes look like a fragmented broken substrate. It's freaky. It doesn't do a full page refresh.

And that's what I get for having too many tabs open while patching, I posted to the wrong thread! So moving my original question to the patch thread.

But one thing I noticed is the bottom menu from within a book has "Search" at the lower left rather than "Books"? Search is already in the menu options at the lower right already, why have it there twice and remove being able to go back to the library?*

And I know this is just picky, but changing "Library" to "Read", "Bookstore" to "Browse", and "Extras" to "Activity" on the home screen just seems silly... and not as intuitive as the original names. At least for me.

Edit: *And later on it changed from "Search" to "Home" and I have no idea why. But again, you've already got the Home button at the upper left, what's the point in adding it again instead of being able to go back to your library like before?

Odd. I used Rakuten and it worked for me. Looking at the strings I pulled out of libnickel.so.1.0.0, I find 89 mentions of Rakuten but 0 mentions of rakutenbooks.

A couple of conclusions? Affiliate names don't seem to be case sensitive and an affiliate name is never removed.

one small question. after i update to 4.3, i find some books are gone for unknown reasons, so i upload again through Calibre, it is said successfully uploaded, but i still can not find in KA1, I have ga back to 4.2 8810, then everything is normal, i find those books in KA1/\. no idea why is that

I decided to try the PIN, changed the affiliate from Kobo to Rakuten, and it works (Aura 6"). They make sure you confirm the PIN, etc. and it is pretty quick to log in.

The thought entered my head that all I would have to do would be to plug in to the computer and change the affiliate to Kobo, and I would able to break in to a found our stolen e-reader, but the PIN is needed to connect as well. Good work, Kobo! The (very poorly maintained) Kobo Insiders web site had a survery about a PIN a while back, and if I recall correctly it received positive response. I am glad it is optional.

I will most likely use this feature only when I travel, since I don't want to enter it each time. I did leave my Aura on an airliner once and wished that it had been protected; I did get it back after an agonizing 2 weeks.

Do you think that it is a bit too easy to sign out from an eReader with a pin?

I think it should require a special combination of taps(to reset the eReader), a special pin(to reset the eReader), or just using your Kobo password (to reset the pin). If anyone else agrees, please reply.

Well, I've updatd my Glo in 4.3.8832... I've still have the old home screen but it's not a problem.

I've add this line in the config file in order to use the nightmode plugin :

InvertScreen=true

And it works !

But 3 things :

1. with the old nightmode plugin I was able to jump between daymode (white screen) and nightmode (black screen) with the light button doing a long press on the light button.
Now how can I do to switch between the 2 modes ? I can't find a toggle under "Reading Settings" ! for devices who have a physical button to turn on the light, it could be a good thing to keep the ancient solution : a short press turn on/off the light, a long press switch between the day/night mode...

2. If I completely stop and start my device : the night mode is used (it's the InvertScreen=true setting seen before). If I go to sleep mode, the night mode dissapears and it require a new stop and start to come back !!!

3. If I go to sleep mode twice, I have got an empty screen.
