Updated my 6" Aura over Wifi... checked the update description, and this is exactly what it says:

My first impulse is to agree with you, but then I thought of Adobe, Windows and quite a few others. They won't ask.
However, a good changelog will tell you beforehand what's changed and based on that you can make up your mind whether to update or not. Kobo's lack of a changelog has confounded me from day one.
Anyway, I'd prefer Kobo to resolve actual technical issues (like touch accuracy) instead of wasting their time on "looks".

It's "ghosting", for some reason the sketchpad only half-clears the screen. But the sketchpad itself has a button to start over (I forget what it was labeled) and when you use that the screen is cleared properly so you can still use the sketchpad. (I only ever use this to test touchscreen functionality though)

I've restarted it and still no change. It's the database itself that hasn't had the updates to the titles made via Calibre, I believe. I'm pretty sure that before the latest firmware update, the Calibre version of the titles were showing in my Kobo Aura H2O, but somehow, the update overwrote them. I think, anyway; I can't be absolutely sure that I'm remembering things correctly... although the book I mentioned in my previous post is now showing with the extra info that I had previously removed via the suggested fixes, so...

Did the update happen as the result of a factory reset? If so, can you check your Energy saving and privacy section in Settings and tell us if you see PIN-code protection option there?

Latest firmware for the 6" Aura still has quirkiness in the "two-finger swipe to adjust brightness" feature. It sometimes fails to respond, responds slowly, or it registers as a single tap and opens the dictionary or starts highlighting text instead (this one is especially annoying). I don't know why they can't just drop the 3.12.1 code in there since that is the last version where this feature worked absolutely perfectly -- it's fast, responsive, and works 100% of the time. Whoever beta tests the firmware must not use this feature as frequently as I do, because I consider the quirks to be a deal breaker.

Looks like I'll be going back to 3.12.1... again.

Try editing the config file. On your device directory, X:/.kobo/kobo/Kobo eReader.conf, adding the line "swipeBrightness=true" in Reading.

Code:
[Reading]
swipeBrightness=true

Has anyone else noticed really bad ghosting in this version? I can't find a setting to make it refresh every page--am I mis-remembering that this used be in the settings?

I seem to recall that there was a way to set this directly in the .conf file--I'd rather not install patches, but changing the .conf file I can do

That's not the problem. The two-finger swipe works on the 6" Aura, it just doesn't work consistently in any version after 3.12.1.

To clarify, I would say it works as expected about 75% of the time, but the other 25% it does something odd, like fail to respond requiring a second swipe, or it will suddenly jump to maximum or minimum brightness, or it will respond but the brightness will change very slowly or simply stop changing even though I'm still moving my fingers, or it will start highlighting text instead of changing the brightness, and so on. It's one of those features that should "just work", and I have no idea how they took it from working 100% perfectly in 3.12.1 to the mess that it is now.

I don't know I missed that...thank you! Unfortunately, it was already set to 1, and it's still not working. I'm going to try re-booting again.

...and, the reboot didn't help.

I updated an H20 to 4.3.8842.

Thoughts.
- yes, it did take awhile to complete (longer than usual) but not long enough that I abandoned it - I didn't time it but I bet it was 5 to 7 minutes of nothing.

- did not get the new home screen until this morning - I believe I got it because I powered the device off instead of putting it to sleep, which I did several times while playing with it last night.

- having an issue when I put the device to sleep that when it wakes up it's completely unresponsive; can't click on anything. This only happens after sleeping the device; if I reboot it's fine when it comes back up but once I sleep the device, forget it. I've waited at least 15 minutes after waking up the device and it never recovers.

- will have to roll back to another release, probably 3.19.5761 but reading the post where you need a windoz box to finish the install and there is no way I am wasting my time on a windoz box. Just found a post that say's there is a way around that so pursuing that option.

I don't like the faxt that turning DEMO MODE ON and then DEMO MODE OFF resets the setting. I have to restore a backup everytime. It's my only complaint.
