I don't care to send my Kindle back to Amazon to replace a battery. This is a huge red flag. |

TTS cannot guarantee that the pronunciation of a word is going to be 100% perfect. I can easily imagine it having to guess, based on internal rules. The dictionary shows pronunciation already, so that works for me.

Faster processor is always nice and the 16-level grey scale might be good for some of the maps/charts for my non-fiction reads. But those aren't "must haves" for me.
Lack of an SD card doesn't bother me as I don't need one now...at one time I contemplated using it for audiobooks or mp3s, but I have my pmp for those and it has a better battery life for audio. I think the joystick was a mistake...using one wouldn't bother me as much as it would someone like my non-gadget/tech mother. One of the cool things about the Kindle was that it was non-threatening to those not comfortable with computers. Text-to-speech probably has its benefits for some...but I fail to see how the mass-market would find it compelling. Personally, I would find a computer voice distracting...would take away from the emotion/color of reading. If I wanted audio, I'd prefer an audio book and play it on my pmp. I think the new form factor will convince a lot of those who have been in the sidelines to jump in. If my Kindle dies, I would be just as happy to replace it with the new Kindle. But I don't find the Kindle 2 compelling enough to upgrade. |

It would be wise for Amazon to be more cautious with their "drop test" footage. Just like K1, they don't show the results of the drop tests after the device is turned back on.
While eink devices are not exactly fresh eggs waiting to be broken, most consumers may not appreciate how fragile the glass substrate of the screen can be. |

With 1.4gigs of free memory for data storage, and if each eBook was exactly 500k in size, you'd ba able to store 2936 eBook on the Kindle 2. Now how does that make the lack of an SD slot a bad thing? Does anyone here really need more than 2500-3000 eBooks at one time? if you think you do, please tell us why you think you do.

I tried using both the Sony 505 and kindle for music files, but found that the extra battery drain (especially with an SD for storage) too much. I've never used an SD on either device since then. I would never miss not having a slot for it. |

The Mrs has a 2GB SD card full of music, books, recipes, audio books, etc. and who knows what the future brings, if the Kindle one day can reads pdf files those can be quite large. The option off keeping stuff on cards and popping them in and out is kind of nice for some people.
The Kindle had expandability and it was taken away, some dude at Amazon decided 1.4 GB is all we need. For many users I'm sure 1.4 is plenty. If we only had never had the memory slot at all Quote:

I'll say it again, John. The point here is that before, I had a choice. I could load smaller SD cards by genre and use that as my 'folders. The cards would fit nicely in the little pockets of my m-edge case. Also, If I chose to, I could load 4,000 books on one SD card, or 1000 books on 4 smaller SD cards, if too many books slowed the Kindle down too much. Why? Because I CHOSE to. I love having all those books there, just like on my wall. Now, some tech somewhere decided I didn't need that choice. They also took away my choice of replacing the battery. While its still replaceable, I have to send it in to Amazon, or risk voiding the warranty by doing it myself. These are two huge steps backwards. |
