It looks as if this is stored in the [ApplicationPreferences] section of the .kobo/Kobo eReader.conf config file. I see these 2 new items on my H2O after I ran a manual fw upgrade.

Well they won't get any money out of me, I don't mind the recommended covers on my home screen but I don't shop via the device at all. I don't with my kindles either.

Me too - I "stick" a number of collections to my home screen and use them from there. I love this feature and don't plan to update so long as there's any chance of losing it.

I've installed the FW, applied the patches (I use very few and all of them work aside of a one I can live without), and I don't have the new home but sort by series, so I'm a happy camper.

I manually installed 4.3.8842 on my Glo which was running 4.2.8432, and now it won't boot, it just sits with 5 full squares and the green LED blinking.

Looks Like I will have to do factory reset and go back to 4.2.8432.

In my case, the screen remained frozen with the small black squares and the green light was blinking, but, being patient, it finally showed me the home page (about 20 minutes of update). So, be patient !!!

It started with the old home page, then I charged the battery and I rebooted the device : the new homepage was there. Do not rejoice too quickly if you still have the old home page...

Yes, I got the files, updated the installer with the new FW version and I applied the patches I was interested. I had to disable all the patches which are enabled by default in rmkdsk (or something like this), as I only want three patches in libnickel (disable sync, modify text in footer and extra dictionaries) and one in nickel (expand details zone).

The patch for Search by default in library didn't work but I've found that it is not necessary as it remembers where you searched the last time and applies that, so that's all I need.

As someone else advised, be patient. The update took awhile even on my KA1. I think it hung with two squares blacked out for a bit, long enough for me to notice even while watching some tv show. Maybe give this firmware a second shot, leave your Glo plugged in while it updates while you go and do something else.

I don't know if something went wrong with the upgrade or I just wasn't patient enough, but I ended up using the pinhole reset and it booted okay after that.

Unfortunately I have the awful new homescreen. It really is horrible. Almost as bad as the Kindle's. I vow never to buy another book from the device shop until it is gone.

Also disappointed to see they have botched the long-awaited series sort. It worked perfectly way back in firmware 2.3.1, but in this firmware it doesn't sort search results, and the author sort still displays the series out of order.

Otherwise it seems good, I think most of the problems that started after my upgrade to 4.2.8432 have gone. Apart from the homescreen it is almost as good as 3.19.5761.

I disagree, series sort didn't exist in that firmware. The title sort included series, so if you have "The long apple (without series)", "The long apple tree (with series)", the sort wasn't right and it was a problem searching the library.

I could not install the new FW on my Glo, it got stuck when it trying to boot up after FW installed, see post #30.

I wander why some got the new home screen and some not on the same device, is it related to to affiliate?
