This is a discussion forum, not a congressional filibuster, and the only thing at stake is sharing opinions, thoughts and arguments (argument as in 'make a case for," not necisarrily "fight.") HOWEVER, if an additional function of this community is to put the weight of consumer's opinions behind a message to providers and ask for some change, then it's not merely expressing an preference, it's a vote for or against the idea of spending resources on something, either "yes, I want Amazon spending time and money implementing this feature, yes I would appreciate and support app developers who put this feature in their readers," or "no, don't drive costs up with stuff that has no real value but to a tiny minority, and don't clutter up and complicate a good app by shoehorning in these features." Point is, people's right to preference is not at issue, and really not worth mentioning, and your live-and-let-live attitude may be harming us all. ![]() |

![]() I merely offered my take on things. You being "not me," however, are free to interpret my words any way you like. I'd need more input from other participants before I gave your opinion that my attitude might actually be harmful to the discussion much merit, though. I'd be perfectly willing to bow out of a discussion where my input was deemed disruptive or primarily pedantic in nature. |

Kindles have 'Location' numbers.
I use those to locate (on K4PC +Calibre) and FIX ![]() (the number of self pub books without word errors is low. loose vs lose, kreeped vs krept, bear vs bare... some even claimed professional editing. BTW I was a 'D' student in English and I found those) |

Ah ... I see the problem now. You took away something from my post that I didn't actually say (and never implied). Happens from time to time. *shrug*

I like my kindle books to have page numbers. Lately only about 1 in 3 seem to have them though. Its just personal thing. I don't care if it matches any other editions, that is now why I like them. For me its a reading guide. In paperbooks I could see just by the chunk of pages read/unread where I was in the book.
With kindles I got used to having locations. But really, what I loved the most and still do is the bottom progress reading bar. The one that goes across with the dots for chapters. Unfortunately they took that one away on newer kindles and I still would like the option back. They could just make it a option in the rotation like the others. But oh well. So closest for me as when the started having pages. So I set it to pages on left and it has the percentage on right. Not as good as progress bar, but I'll work with what I got. Those books not having pages, I set to time left in book. I kind of know how long it takes me to read a book and its quite accurate. Its really just a preference thing for me, I like a visual cue to where I am in the book. Not a deal breaker of course, but I like what I like. ![]() |

Yes, I agree that when there is no page count, % is definitely better. However, most of the books that I read do have a page count and so, for me, having page numbers is better than locations.

I have seen some that say page 30 of 300. It is the ones that just say 20 that is not so useful. 20 of how many?

It only says 45 or whatever the page is on my kindles. It doesn't say out of so many pages. I wouldn't mind that being there also, but at this point I don't even get page numbers everytime.
![]() For me I check the page number when I first open a book. It opens the about the book. Or if it was already opened before, I just go to about the book as I start the book. I pretty much only read one book at a time so it works for me. When the page numbers are available, I can always tap the top screen and then it tells me of the bottom page 4 of 342 for example. In case I forgot how many pages the book has. Tapping the bottom or swiping up both gives that page info. If there are pages, otherwise it just gives locations. |
