Are there diagnostics that I can run on a voyage? Am wondering now if the hard drive might be going bad. ![]() |

Looking in the kindle's document folder I still see a whole bunch of *.sdr folders even though the books/docs associated with them were removed or deleted. Is this normal? Are they there just in case I reinstall them?

Yeah, they're tracking things like your last-read position, highlights, notes, etc.

Think I have it all sorted out now. Reset/rebroken. Added back a few books, so far so good. Thanks Cinisajoy for your help.

I hate to say it but the indexing issue has returned. It was fine until late this afternoon when I noticed that the battery had drained substantially again. A quick check showed that it was stuck indexing yet again!!!! I deleted all the books I had on it (about 10). Reloaded 1 that got stuck. Reloaded a few more and once again I get this cycle of 5-4-3-2-1 done and then back to 5 again. Grr-r-r. I chatted online with Amazon and they are escalating to the development team so will see what they say. Think I will give it a while and then I will factory reset it again. This time no jailbreak just to test it out. At this point I don't know if it is the device, the firmware (don't see any reports of similar issue) or the books (some are sideloaded, some send-to-kindle from calibre). Frustrating.

This is the battery:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...&condition=new https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...05070&_sacat=0 My question is if you follow the iFixit guide it says that the back cover is glued to the device, but how do you reassemble? Does it need to be glued back on? The site doesn't say. It just says to reverse the disassembly procedure. Last edited by HogDrvr; 01-07-2018 at 11:45 AM. |

You can't put a battery designed for another device into the Voyage. Battery space is very critical and the slightest bit of extra thickness will cause the side buttons to not work. The controller board with the battery needs to be designed to work specifically with the Voyage.
Check out this post and see if SKK still has any extras. The ones he sold me worked for me. Broken Kindle Voyage Screen with Good Battery The upper back portion is fastened down with clips and double sided sticky tape. You may need to replace that tape carefully when reassembling. I just used carefully cut pieces of double sided tape. The back of the case is not glued down. Once you remove the small upper back portion and the 4 screws inside the upper back just slides (with great difficulty) down and off. However the battery is glued down onto the Kindle. You can probably just use double sided tape to hold the replacement battery in place. Last edited by IFixKindles; 01-07-2018 at 04:45 PM. Reason: Add info about battery glue. |
