I haven't added large amounts of books since I first got the voyage 2 years ago. I have deleted the search index files in the system folder as instructed so will see if this solves the problem. Found this is an Amazon forum:

Try to put your device to sleep. Put it to sleep will speed up the indexing process. I have 19 books that takes less than 30 minutes to complete the indexing process simply by putting the device to sleep.

If it doesn't work try the following:

You need to FORCE Kindle to re-index your Kindle's books. This process involved deleting some files. Only the files related to indexing process need to be deleted. You don't need to delete or download the books all over again.

Please use the following instructions specific to your device:

1. Connect your Kindle to your computer.
2. Click Start, select Control Panel, and select "Folder Options" from the Control Panel menu.
3. Select the View tab.
4. In the View List, select the radio button to Show Hidden Files and Folders and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files if available.
5. Deselect the checkbox to Hide Protected Operating System Files. (You may want to re-enable this after re-indexing your Kindle.)
6. Open the Kindle internal memory on the PC.
7. Open the System folder on the Kindle disk.
8. Open the Search Indexes folder inside the System folder.
9. Select all files inside the Search Indexes folder and move them to the Recycle Bin.
10. Disconnect the Kindle from the computer.
11. Connect the Kindle to a power source.

The indexing process should be complete within 24 hours. Please leave the Kindle connected to a power source for this time frame.
I am not having much luck with this. It seems to be indexing as the file # decreases to about 25 or maybe less even. But then it seems to start over again at about 115 files!!! It's looped a couple of times this way. Just when I think it might be done it starts over again. I've deleted some of the more recent files in case one of them is causing the problem. I've also gone ahead and deleted the search indexes files again. Restarted the voyage and am going to let it go overnight. With luck it will finish but am not overly optimistic. Am guessing a factory reset is next but am not eager to do that and have to start the whole jailbreak process again. If anyone has any tips for me I'd appreciate it. If this should be in another thread let me know too.

Simpler solution. Remove all the books that are still indexing. Resend to your Voyage one at a time. Do not do batches.

Thanks. It is very odd. I deleted the books - almost 120 of them. Deleted the search index files again and restarted. Added back 1 from the Amazon cloud (send to kindle personal doc). After an hour wouldn't index and it was only a 300 page book. Deleted it again. Hooked up the kindle to my computer and transferred 4 books that way. The weird part is that it seemed like it was indexing ok. I was even able to search a character successfully. Then a few minutes later that book and all the rest were showing as not indexed and the exact same search failed!!!

Are there diagnostics that I can run on a voyage? Am wondering now if the hard drive might be going bad.

Looking in the kindle's document folder I still see a whole bunch of *.sdr folders even though the books/docs associated with them were removed or deleted. Is this normal? Are they there just in case I reinstall them?

It sounds like you need to f****** reset. Or Factory reset. I had to do that with my Fire once. Took me several hours to get everything I wanted back on it.
Least you don't have to deal with the carousel.

Yeah, they're tracking things like your last-read position, highlights, notes, etc.

I hate to say it but the indexing issue has returned. It was fine until late this afternoon when I noticed that the battery had drained substantially again. A quick check showed that it was stuck indexing yet again!!!! I deleted all the books I had on it (about 10). Reloaded 1 that got stuck. Reloaded a few more and once again I get this cycle of 5-4-3-2-1 done and then back to 5 again. Grr-r-r. I chatted online with Amazon and they are escalating to the development team so will see what they say. Think I will give it a while and then I will factory reset it again. This time no jailbreak just to test it out. At this point I don't know if it is the device, the firmware (don't see any reports of similar issue) or the books (some are sideloaded, some send-to-kindle from calibre). Frustrating.

This is the battery:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...&condition=new

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...05070&_sacat=0

My question is if you follow the iFixit guide it says that the back cover is glued to the device, but how do you reassemble? Does it need to be glued back on? The site doesn't say. It just says to reverse the disassembly procedure.

You can't put a battery designed for another device into the Voyage. Battery space is very critical and the slightest bit of extra thickness will cause the side buttons to not work. The controller board with the battery needs to be designed to work specifically with the Voyage.

Check out this post and see if SKK still has any extras. The ones he sold me worked for me. Broken Kindle Voyage Screen with Good Battery

The upper back portion is fastened down with clips and double sided sticky tape. You may need to replace that tape carefully when reassembling. I just used carefully cut pieces of double sided tape. The back of the case is not glued down. Once you remove the small upper back portion and the 4 screws inside the upper back just slides (with great difficulty) down and off. However the battery is glued down onto the Kindle. You can probably just use double sided tape to hold the replacement battery in place.
