Can't read audiobook on my Clip anymore

I have read the problems people are having with 3M. I have Axis 360. Just tried to check out an audiobook-could only download to computer. No more audiobooks for me (not that that will hurt anyone; I check out about 3 a year).

Is piracy such a problem that everything has to be made more difficult for the consumer?

This is just complete speculation and I have nothing to back it up. I think it's more likely that the providers feel, and who knows maybe they have data to back it up, that the majority of the users they provide service to are fine using the app they provide on a PC, smart phone, tablet or media player and that the minority of users that use a dedicated device that requires sideloading are small and shrinking yet probably account for more than their fair share of support requests.

"They" seem to think that all of us have tons of internal storage space on our devices. I don't even have enough internal storage on my phone for the multiple audiobook apps, let alone the space to download a twelve-hour audio file.
