Not really -- according to the pre-pre-release manual (the only document I've found that gave details), the main thing that was meant to distinguish them from the Pro was a lack of page turn buttons. So the Monte Carlo (which has the buttons) is more of a 'Kepler Pro Lite', than anything originally envisioned.

What about the youtube video with Kepler Pro chilling in a tub? Was it fake? Are they not indeed waterproof?
Given that that demonstration was performed on an early prototype, and no mention has been made of the feature since, I suspect nobody has been brave enough to try it on a production model to see if it still applies.

Any hope your store might stock these?

thanks for the pointer! Tried it out today, works fine (although my reader shows a scaringly empty screen with only a few remnants of the progress bar during update ever since my experiments with repeated updates of 1.8.0...)

I really like the simple access to screen refresh and A2 mode; also backlight does actually have 20 different levels, so may be worth the update for the light-sensitive people around here

Just a quick update on my bricked Kepler Pro. It took twice as long as NZ Post said it would to reach Onyx-Boox. But after a week with them, they have informed me that they have resolved the mysterious "hardware issue" (I asked for further details, but to no avail) and that they are sending it back.

Hi...i am a new user here. I saw the charbax video but didn't expect this to have a digitizer! Now I'm a bit disappointed I just got the T68 recently, as i wasn't expecting any small format readers with stylus support any time soon. Probably now I'll wait till readers with imx7 come out some day, but I will be very interested to hear more about small devices with digitizers.

A fairly long and involved story, starting with a firmware update. The results of which (including pictures) can be found a few pages back on this thread).

Has anyone else updated to the 1.8.1? I read somewhere someone lost the ability to root. I'm quite satisfied with my setup now and do not desire to lose this functionality.

Additionally, has anyone figured out how to change the Screensaver?

sorry to disappoint you, but there's no specific stylus support. The Kepler Pro has a conventional capacitive touch screen.

Root is still working for me after upgrade to 1.8.1. I didn't take any special measures to preserve it.

I'm attempting to update my Kepler from 1.8.0 to 1.8.1. The Boox site says "Go to Settings - About - system update , choose "Check update from local storage"

I do not see this option. Now I know I've seen this option before, when I updated the device to my current version. I can not find it now. Can someone help me out?

sounds like a case for the Mfg Tool to me (see post #174). Apparently, you could even switch the rom blob contained in the zip to 1.8.1 so you'd get the latest version right away without further updating. Keep in mind that this corresponds to a factory reset, so all user data & settings will be wiped. (Proceed at your own risk, Hrafn has already bricked his device following my advice...! Sorry again Hrafn )

I've decided I won't pursue the update. This device is everything I wanted for the last couple of years. I'd kick myself if I did something to soft brick this thing. That and I'm almost done w/ my current book.

Thanks for the suggestions above Kanalratte and Sharkcow.
