Hey, not sure if anyone can help me here, but it's worth a shot...

I have a KT3, I followed all directions for jailbreaking it, etc and it seemed to work, but after updating firmware to current version I had difficulty installing KUAL/MSRI and Koreader. In fact, after the Koreader install seemingly succeeded, Koreader still did not function from launching within KUAL, and any time I would place a .bin file in the root of the device, the file would immediately disappear.

I've decided to set to factory and attempt the process again from scratch, but thought it might be worth checking here in case I've done something stupid and obvious?

Thanks in advance!

Reinstall the hotfix, then MRPI, then whatever you want.

Is there a compelling reason to not install KUAL as well before updating the firmware? Is that where I likely went wrong before with MRPI?

I did not misnumber the steps.

Step #7 should be done before Step #8.

Same-same as if you where counting on your fingers and/or toes.

Following the directions precisely from the OP, when I arrive at installing MRPI, I use ";log mrpi" as directed and receive the "MRPI Not Installed" error. Which makes sense. So, Have I misunderstood something in the directions?

Gotcha. I'll install the FW update and see how it goes. Thanks!

I'm clearly misunderstanding something is this portion of the instructions - can anyone advise? I receive "MPRI Not Installed" when trying to follow this.

That message seems pretty self explanatory.

Follow all steps, in numerical order, carefully and completely, no shortcuts allowed.
If not sure what you did, start over, keep notes, lock door to room so you do not have distractions.

Then you will not have error messages.

Tens of thousands of people have followed these directions in the past eight months without problems, so can you.

I'm certain I accomplished steps 1-7 as listed.

Step 8 is expressed in a way that is unclear to me, for example:
"The KOA and KT3 owners must use the new installation methods."
Which would be fine, but the "new installation methods" are not clearly indicated.

Being condescending isn't exactly helpful. I'm aware that I'm struggling with something that others have accomplished, but that doesn't mean I've failed to pay attention. Clearly something isn't as clear to me as it should be.

I've worked it out.

Nowhere in the instructions nor the README.txt provided with KUAL does it say where to place the KUAL Booklet .bin file. If you put it in the mrpackages folder and run via ;log mrpi, it installs.

Only applicable to KOA/KT3 users, of course.

Not in so many words.
Look at the forum index, in the sticky section, find:
The KUAL thread is dated 1-20-2013
Now open the first post of that thread, find (in the "Latest Updates (7/21/2016)" section):
Quote:
KUAL v2.7. Oasis & KT3 support, via a Booklet port.
Do read the relevant part of the documentation.
Translation:
The booklet version is part of the "new installations methods".

Following the quote you posted, there is a spoiler, open it and find:
Section a, bullet "KOA and KT3 owners"
Section b, bullet "KOA and KT3 owners"

Read those.

In this forum, if you run into something that is not clear and that something is followed by a spoiler, open the spoiler.
There is a good chance that it contains additional details.

That is a general practice by the authors here -
They write the main text for experienced users of our Kindle add-ins and put the background details into spoiler folded text sections.

Hi!

After reading this:
This is the ONLY TIME you should ever use the Reset menu entry in the lifetime of the device because it wipes out a vital part of what is about to be added.
NEVER AGAIN USE THE "Reset" MENU ENTRY. Never.
I'm afraid to ask: what if want to give my KV to another person? Is there a way to remove the JB and reset the device?

In other words, this new generic way of JB has an uninstaller or something like this?

Thanks.
Regards.
