Faux San Pellegrino, but I'm about to switch to medicinal Talisker to tame the results of the dentist's mangling.

I had posted this picture to a group of music fans, along with the note that I was planning to have tea with Elvis Costello. It took a while for anyone to get it -- and then they all did.

The "organic ti kuan yin" I'm drinking right now was cheap and tastes it. I didn't get it until I got frustrated and started reading the can aloud. |

Well, it looks like the "big melt" is starting. Temperatures are up into the upper single digits (mid-40's for those still stuck in Fahrenheit). A bit of rain overnight, with more promised over the next few days. Here, that's meant we're starting to melt, though it will be another 48 hours at least before the unplowed places are bare. And a week before most of the piles on the side of the road are gone, unless we get some serious rain.
Unfortunately, it's not so great on the roads to the interior. It's currently impossible to get to Kamloops, Kelowna, or most of the BC Interior from the greater Vancouver area except by plane. You can't even cross down to Washington and go across that way because the roads there are nearly as bad. The main highway into some areas, the Coquihalla Highway, is a single sheet of ice after nearly 24 hours of freezing rain. Completely impassible. Time for a breakfast tea with some authority! Peet's Irish Breakfast Blend tea, along with a mug of Peet's Holiday Blend coffee to get started. |

Second tea of the day. The driveway is about two thirds shoveled. It's not deep, but it's very wet and dense and there's an ice layer at the bottom that makes for tricky footing.
Yeah, sorry about that. I'm a little warped that way. When I saw it on the store shelf that was honestly the first thought that went through my head. |

I bought a box of Alwazah brand Ceylon F.B.O.P. at a halal grocery last night. I made some this morning and it's excellent. The maltiness, astringency and bitterness are balanced well and the overall flavor is really robust.
I was actually looking for a quality Assam or something that wasn't as delicate as a Darjeeling and decided to try the Ceylon. It was cheap enough ($6 for 400g) that I was worried, but it's exactly the flavor that I was looking for. |
