WTH? Where did Send to Device go?
I must have changed something, because I no longer have access to "send to device". I have "save to disk", and the metadata and configurations for my devices. THey are recognized in Calibre, but the "save to device" function has disappeared, even AFTER I made sure it was on the toolbar.
I have no idea how to "save to disk", so unless I figure out this save to device problem, I can't get new books on it.... I bet this has to do with my resetting to defaults. I did that as an attempt to speed up Calibre. Didn't speed anything up, but now my whole library looks and acts weird. ![]() |

Is your device connected? Make sure the 'Send to device' action is added to 'The main toolbar when a device is connected' toolbar

![]() The OP said they reset everything to defaults, so Location Manager should be in the "...when device is connected" toolbar and context menu. But I think it defaults to library view first time, on the assumption that you haven't sent any books to your device, because its the 'first time'. BR |

@theducks,
@BetterRed, Your mention of the "when device is connected" did the trick. I found send to device on the main toolbar when device is connected. However, I am not sure how to get it to the context menu. I sent a test book to my device and then went back to the toolbar manager and still haven't found the ability in the context menu. Should I restart? Uhh..what is the "location manager"? I guess I should look into that. I am sure I know what it is once I see it. |

It still won't show up on the context menu. All previous locations of "sent to device" has been replaced with "save to disk"
Also, what is the difference between sending to device and saving to disk, and would it be better for sending to the device? |

Both save to disk and send to device will update the book to the latest metadata and copy it somewhere. Save to disk will prompt you were to copy the book. But, send to device does device specific things. The driver for the connected device will do things like put the file in the place the device will read it from, make sure the file name is valid on the device, upload covers in the appropriate size and place. And different drivers will do more. The KoboTouch driver can manage collections, series info and add some standard CSS to an epub. The KoboTouchExtended driver can modify an epub to be a kepub.

If it is on the main menu when connect: Location manager is there.
LM is the device sensitive collection of Icons that are related to the CURRENT model device (send,main storage view,additional storage views) Toolbars: Context Menu (for books in library): Send to device <on right side> (only shows when connected) |

@theducks
Thanks for clearing up the "send to disk" question. As far as finding the "send to device", it used to always be a standard option in any menu, context, main toolbar, device or not. I never really go to the device storage side of things, I pretty much just use it to check and see if it matches up with what is in the library. I do understand that the LM is the icon showing the device. Regarding sending to device, seriously? I have no idea where it went. I could get it on the main toolbar when device was connected, but nowhere else. I ended up swapping out the gui json, and PYE files when I found some older ones on a back up disk that had the "send to device" action listed on the context menus. BTW, there is a TON of information that is outdated in those files. I wonder if this is why my libraries take so long to go through. I wonder if there is a way to start fresh with just the data for whatever is currently happening, and not every bit of data from the history of Calibre. I change stuff all the time, and it seems to want to keep track. I might be mistaken, but this was why tried to go to defaults in the beginning. |
