I had one of these when I was a kid. I loved Howdy Doody, but every day my sister and I would fuss about whether to watch it or The Mickey Mouse Club.

I was and I remember watching the episodes on TV. Of course, I had a coonskin cap and a rifle so I could be just like him. I preferred watching Davy Crockett over Daniel Boone.

Quote:
Davy Crockett is a five-part serial which aired on ABC from 1954-1955 in one-hour episodes, on the Disneyland series. The series stars Fess Parker as real-life frontiersman Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as his friend, George Russel.

The first three episodes of the serial were edited together as the theatrical film Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier (1955) and rebroadcast in color in the 1960s, when the Disney program went to NBC. This series and film are known for the catchy theme song, "The Ballad of Davy Crockett". It was filmed in color at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the Mountain Farm Museum adjacent to the visitor center at Oconaluftee, near Qualla Reservation's entrance and Janss Conejo Ranch, California.

The final two episodes were edited together as the theatrical film Davy Crockett and the River Pirates (1956). It was filmed in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois.

I don't remember that one. But I do remember seeing the reruns of the Are You Being Served character Mrs. Slocumbe (played by the late Molie Sugden) with her wildly colored hair which was sometimes purple. And she was unanimous in that! (Sorry, but you will have to be familiar with the show to understand that joke...)

I also remember how women in the early 1970s were frosting their hair. Now a days they pull out grey hairs, but back then it was not uncommon to see a 20 or 30 something woman with a tuft of white hair dyed to contrast with her naturally darker hair.

I remember black with almost orange highlights. Tried to do blonde highlights. The orange was a hit at school because the school colors were orange and white.
Totally pumpkin hair, looked odd when it started growing out. (Once again tried to do the blonde thing.)
Oh and once in high school tried to do green with food coloring. On washing it a dozen times afterwards, it went purple for a few days. Deep purple not lavender.

My mom went prematurely grey. I'm sure her four kids probably had a lot to do with that. So by 40 she already had salt and pepper grey hair. I remember she would get so upset when a lady would come up to her during the frosting era and say something like, "Where did you get your hair frosted? It looks so natural." She would grit her teeth and mutter something about it being natural and NOT frosted. You could almost see the steam coming out of her ears! She was never a vain woman, but she hated the premature grey hair, though she never tried to dye her hair back to her dark brunette original color. I guess I inherited that too as mine went grey at an early age just like hers did. I didn't care though. It is what it is.

I started going grey at 17. I blame it on watching 2 12 year old boys every night.
I sympathize with your mother. The question I get most often is how do you get your hair so straight. My answer it grows that way.

Actually, these days the young women are dying their hair gray/silver on purpose. The 25-year-old who sits beside me at work just did it. It is the oddest thing.
