You might. We generally vacation within 8 hours of where we live. We once spent a week, 2 hours from our house. Actually we have done that 3 times. Only problem there, we both gained 10 pounds it seemed.
We don't do the tourist towns. And we try to vary our locations. Not just the same place every time.
My dream vacation will be San Diego. Ok that is a retirement dream.

He used to play billiard in our city, but his billiard mate moved in with his girlfriend, which is a 45 minute car drive away. Nearby his mate is a billiard club (they used to play at a cafe), so now he drives over twice a week to play. The vacation park they're going to is about a 10 minute drive from the club. So he can go play, as usual, on Friday.

The Netherlands isn't big, we live in the middle, so you can reach the north and south in 2 hours, east and west in an hour. So a 50 minute drive to a vacation park is getting away from things.

What are your speed limits on the highways?

If I go northwest, I can be in New Mexico in a little over an hour. Any other direction is more than 5 hours just to leave our state.

Depending on the highway and time of day 100, 120 or 130 km/h. However, getting out of the city centre to the highway is 20 minutes if traffic is good. From door to door it's 60 km.

Ours range from 88km/h to 128km/h on the highway. Or 55 to 80 mph.
And the 20 minutes is about average here unless we are going east, then even the highway is slow for the first 30 miles.

Ah I see. I thought his billiard club was in the same town. That's quite a drive to play pool. Let see that would be like driving to Festus or St Charles here.

Never say he plays pool, he plays "proper" billiards (with three balls)

. It is quite a distance, but the tables at the club are much better than those found in cafés.

My mother always laughs at me for making/editing lists weeks in advance of a vacation. Now she's running around gathering things and making lists for their weekend away. Tomorrow, I expect my errands list will be a lot longer than just bread and cheese, to get the things my mother thought of after they did their weekly grocery run yesterday morning.

My father isn't bothered. I asked him if he needed anything and he didn't. He knows my mother will make sure his clothes are packed, there are enough chargers and food and drink are packed. He only has to think of packing his laptop, though my mother will probably remind him of that.

In 1988 my wife won a trip for two anywhere in the continental United States. She wanted to visit Los Angeles. I wanted to visit San Diego and the zoo there. We compromised and went to San Francisco.
