Marvin & Calibre--best method?
I have about 1000 ebooks (using Calibre). I just spent a lot of time cleaning them all up--tags, titles, descriptions, etc. I embedded the metadata in the epub files.
I'd like to clear Marvin and add all of the books fresh so that the Marvin copies on my iPad all have all the metadata I spent so long cleaning up. So, what is the best method? I've let my books on the iPad get out of sync with Calibre once the plugin didn't work anymore--but since it doesn't appear that is fixed, I need to figure out the best/fastest/easiest way to move a large quantity of books. What have people found works the best? Thanks! |

I like running Calibre's OPDS server...Works great with Marvin (or anything else for that matter)...and I only need to download the actual books I want in my reader. I have tested it in multiple locations around the world and it works wherever there is internet access. Pretty fast, but if you want to put all 1000 books on your phone it's probably better to find some wired method.

iTunes sharing. also..Calibre doesn't need a plug in to transfer in bulk to a device.

rjcchan--can you elaborate on Calibre not needing a plugin to transfer to a device? I'm not sure how it would work or how I would do that with an iPad.

i am sorry...I was thinking Kindle.
it is possible to import multiple titles at one time using the opds server or from dropbox if that is available Last edited by rjcchan; 11-09-2015 at 08:52 PM. |

You were right
Actually, you were right--I used iTunes.
To do this, I saved the books I wanted to load (in sets of 200) as EPUBs in a single directory. Then I dragged them into iTunes for the Marvin App. I now have all of my books loaded and it didn't take as long or need as much clicking as selecting them one at a time from Dropbox would have. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. |

If you go to itunes. Click on the phone. click on apps and you'll see all the installed apps. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see apps that allow file sharing. For new phones you'll probably see things like numbers, pages, etc. You'll also see Marvin. Just drag and drop an epub into marvin. No syncing required. Go to your Marvin Library folder and you can drag and drop multiple titles. |

To move a large number of books (which is what I wanted to do), I used Save Books within Calibre to save all of the ebooks in a single directory so that I could easily drag them into iTunes.
I do miss the functionality of the Calibre/Marvin plugin. This worked fine, though. And I can see how to do it easily when I have a set of new books to bring over. |

I was able to direct send them from Calibre to Marvin 2.5.4 - jailbroken iOS 9.0.2 though. Probably the best as no iTunes steps in the middle as it uses iTunes DLL/ Driver in the background.
Had this stopped working for newer versions of Marvin? Last edited by crashnburn; 02-06-2016 at 12:11 AM. |
