Yes, very important now that the current Kindle for PC also downloads KFX formatted books.

I guess it's a moot point now that K4PC is going KFX, but it would have been nice to have calibre recognize the My Kindle Content directory created by K4PC as a pseudo device so that the books there would be listed in calibre device view with authors and titles and allow easy import into the main calibre library.

Look at 'Connect to folder'. That will probably do what you want.

That actually worked fairly well, although most of the books in my K4PC didn't show up since I have allowed it to update to the new version that supports KFX.

I guess that the people who sometimes complain about not knowing which file corresponds to each book are in their K4PC folder during import to calibre don't know about this feature.

Thanks Kovid. I was finally able to download the metadata into Calibre. What I had to do was 'Download & transfer via USB.' This was what I wanted all along. This was a slow cumbersome task but it was doable. Thanks for your great support, and thanks to everyone else for your comments. Consider this issue closed. :-)

If you have Kindle for PC version 1.19 or later, you will receive KFX same as your Fire. You need to find Kindle for PC 1.17. There are links on MR to download Kindle for PC 1.17 from Amazon. You will have to look as I don't have the link handy.

Yeah, I have 1.00. I'll look for 1.17 for the future. Thanks for the post.

Well, it's been a while since I updated Calibre from my Fires and just discovered that you can't see any books at all anymore. On my older Fire HDX, the device sees all my old books but only, it appears, up through 2016, maybe the start of 2017.

On the new Fire HD 10 (OS 5.5). the only book in internal storage you can even see is the one .mobi book I downloaded a few days ago.

I went back to my 2014 HDX and found a number of files on it that I hadn't catalogued in Calibre but, oddly, often when I "uploaded" to calibre, I'd get a message that the book was already in the library.

Like many others, I can live without being able to read a book in Calibre or even be able to convert it, but I would like to use Calibre for cataloguing and I had hoped to use it to move my non-Amazon-bought books (that Amazon didn't transfer to the new device) but now that's not possible since there is no way to compare catalogs.
