So RoyalRoad updated their email notifications in the last week. It took them a few days to get it right - but now their new system includes a link to the main story, not just the chapter. The problem is the link is formatted like:

(Putting it into a code box, because it's large)

Is there any way that fanficfare can use that link through email and use it? It would make for easier updates. It doesn't seem likely, as it would have to visit the redirect link before it's changed to the story link, so I don't hold much hope. I did decide it was best to ask rather than just assume it wasn't possible.

Ugh. In theory, it's possible. In practice, I don't really want to start down that path. I'll think about it.

Don't worry about it then, I'm doing it the old fashioned way anyway, so it's not a big deal. You have enough on your plate keeping up with everything else that goes wrong.

FYI, forums.spacebattles.com has turned on 'Reader Mode', which FFF already has code for due to SV getting it earlier.

However, at least one story fails in reader mode because it doesn't use a consistent number of posts per page in reader mode. I don't have any bright ideas at the moment other than to turn off reader mode.

Known issue with current version: some SpaceBattles stories in reader mode have inconsistent posts per page, which breaks FFF reader mode support.

If you see any other stories with the same issue, I'd like to hear about them. I'm leaving reader mode for SB on for now specifically to find problems, but as it stands, I'll be turning it off in the next release.

Hi, I updated today and now I'm seeing this error message:

calibre, version 2.78.0
ERROR: Failed to start content server: IOError("Port 12345 not free on u'192.168.1.100'",)

I changed the port number for security reasons.

Not sure about security concerns; that is on a local IP address 192.168.1.100... Even knowing the port no one could connect

That's nothing to do with FanFicFare.

But I'd speculate that the port was still in use by your previous calibre install or some other program. Reboot, try again, if it still fails, take it up in a more general calibre forum.

I hope I am posting this right, I apologize if I am not. I have questions if anyone can answer, I was told there was an email option with FanFicFare and calibre, where it would take all my emailed updates and update them, and this would stop me from having to copy and paste all of the story URL's one at a time. Is there somewhere that will walk me thru this process. Thanks for any help.
