![]() I was able to update the firmware to the latest, update KUAL, KOreader, install MRPI, Screen Saver hack, Battery Status and I can run KUAL kindlet. I switched Back Door Lock back on. No success on replacing the Store button, however. (KUAL main menu / KUAL * 1+ / Replace Store button) Is it still available or just an outdated method? Searching in the main screen for ;log mrpi did not work, even when I had some install .bin files in mrpackages. KUAL -> MRPI did install them however. I can live with it just want to make sure it is not indicating a substantial part of KUAL or MRPI is missing. "You should now have a pretty KUAL button/entry on your Library": I only have a book cover named "Kindle Launcher" (this should be the KUAL Kindlet). Should I have something else as well? Thanks. |

The replace store button feature is firmware version specific.
I.E: It has never been updated for your version if it does not work. The ;log mrpi not working indicates that you skipped installing the most recent 'hotfix' package. |

I contacted Amazon again and they had me search ;311. This allowed me to choose my wireless service. The kindle was connected to "unknown" and gave me the choice to Switch Automatically, connect to AT&T (3G), T-Mobile (3G), or T-Mobile (2G). I could not connect using any options. Amazon considered this an odd failure and agreed to do an exchange. I did another factory reset to eliminate any traces of the jailbreak, and sure enough, 3G came back. I'll update when I get the new kindle. |

You are still trying to run everything under the factory Internal Use Only firmware. The only package designed, built and tested here to run with the IUO firmware is the 'hotfix' package. Nothing else was or is intended to work under IUO. It is simply luck if it does. |

The firmware you downgraded to is factory. The firmware you need to put back is customer. Finish your jailbreak. |

I'd love to do more testing, but that unit is out of my hands now - new unit will be here today. |

A complete reset does not remove the jail break certificate.
Nor any of the changes made to the Amazon portion of the system image. |

What to do next?
Sorry for the nooby question but I am finding it a bit difficult to navigate all the threads about jailbreaking.
I have at last decided to jailbreak my 2 year old PW2. I was on 5.8.7.0. I downgraded to 5.4.3.2 and then, I think, successfully jailbroke it. I understand I can now upgrade my firmware and I see the latest is 5.8.7.1. I thought I read somewhere a few days ago that I have to be sure that I have a version of the jailbreak that supports the firmware I want to install. So is there anything I need to install or do before I manually update my firmware? Can I install 5.8.7.1 or should I install something less? TIA |

A pw-2 - -
You followed the directions here, up to the link to the prior universal jb, followed by returning here, skipping steps #5 and #6 here, and completed steps #7 and #8 here. Is that correct? Then you are ready to update to your choice of consumer firmware. Regardless of what you may have read anywhere else. |

Thanks. Seems to be working now. I'm now on 5.8.7 installed manually because I nearly always have my Kindle in airplane mode.
Installed my first hack - the screensaver. However, I have a couple of problems. The book I was reading before I did all this has lost its page numbers. The are no longer an option at the bottom of the page or in the Goto. Any idea what I could have done to make that happen? It is not all books. Also, the screensaver does not start. I've restarted the Kindle and I've even disabled the hack and it still never starts. I've tried to uninstall it although I wasn't sure how but I still don't get a screensaver. |

Page number problem solved. I deleted the book from Calibre and the Kindle and added it back again. Page numbers are back. Strange.

What parts of it have you tried? With what results? Please post your screensaver topics in the screensaver thread that is appropriate. The topic of this thread is the current jail break - not page numbers - not screensavers - |
