The last version your device installed when you did a sync. If you sync now and there is no update, then you are on the version Kobo currently wants you to run

Hi Pete as for you advise i checked the reading time from 100% to 50% and even though the sudden drop from 70% to 60% happened the actual reading timewise has been seven hours and half. So I'm ok with my KA1. Thanks.

Yup. I'll be applying it on the next charge cycle which judging by the speed of discharge will be in a few days

Yep, those 32 bit graphics give much nicer colour rendition!

LOL, I was only thinking about hardware acceleration. In theory that should improve the rendering speed and (hopefully) have positive effect on the battery life.

Okay, I'll ask a different way. What is the version that Kobo most often syncs with at this time?

Thanks!

For the KA1, the common release version is 4.2.8110, the devices getting early roll out of the new firmware are getting 4.2.8283 (Kobo typically staggers the rollout based on the affiliate store in your config file).

I understand that it is possible to roll back to a previous firmware if one doesn't like the update, but how exactly do you do that?

I've never done that before, but I figure it is time to learn since with library access, I'm more likely to be connecting my reader to wifi.

r, considering the problems folks here are reporting with that version, I'm surprised Kobo is releasing it.

I believe I'll stay away from any syncing for my KA1.

Thanks!

I have installed 4.2.8283 on my KA1 and am not experiencing any problems at all. If anything, it seems a bit more responsive. The sleep cover is also working just fine for me with this firmware. I like it.

If I had an Aura One, I'd try the new firmware. It's no harm as we can go back if we want.

IIRC I've seen 2 reports of people with battery drain (more posts than that, but I believe only two different people that had a drain). In one case it was once, the other person had drain twice. That's not a lot of people reporting problems. And really, it's pretty hard to pin that drain to the new firmware. I've had drain 2 times since I've had my KA1 (and I was one of the lucky ones that pre-ordered and received it the day before it was supposed to be officially released ) and it was at random times and on different firmware. When it's that few reports it could be completely co-incidental that these people ran into drain after getting the new firmware rather than being the fault of the new firmware.

Strictly, you should do a factory reset and do the setup afterwards via the PC and Kobo desktop application. The you replace the downloaded firmware package with the version you want to use. You can without the factory reset by following the instructions for manually installing firmware. Whether it works depends on exactly how much things have changed.

But, as you are using WiFi to get books and otherwise sync to the Kobo server, you won't be able to not update.
