Tools Software Jailbreak for PW2, PW3, PW3W, KT2, KV, KOA and KT3

Hello!

Could you please help me to identify what I might have done wrong during the jailbreak of my Kindle Oasis.

I’ve followed the procedure step-by-step and didn’t have any problems in the process up to step 8.

The nickname of my Kindle is KOA (G0B0GC), it is not a special offers model. So I’ve successfully downgraded Kindle with KOA factory_KOA_5.7.4_initial. Before that I’ve performed factory reset and after the factory reset I’ve registed Kindle in Amazon and put it into the flight mode.

Step 5 has been done without any problems but as a result I didn’t get any identification from the device that it has been jailbroken (no message, no new document).

Step 6 has been done successfully.

Step 7. I’ve downloaded customer_KOA_5.8.7_update and installed it by placing the file in the topmost, visible level of USB storage (alongside of /documents) and updating the Kindle through Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Menu -> Update Your Kindle. Kindle has been updated successfully.

And now Step 8: I’ve copied the 2 folders (extention and mrpackages) from MR Package Installer to the topmost, visible level of USB storage (alongside of /documents), ejected Kindle and run the search bar command: ;log mrpi. Nothing happened. The device didn’t restart.

Than I’ve downloaded KUAL package and copied Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7_install.bin to mrpackages folder, ejected Kindle and run the search bar command: ;log mrpi. Nothing happened. The device didn’t restart, new documents didn’t appear.

What should be my next step?
Should I perform the factory reset and start from the beginning? Is it safe?
Or I should just re-perform step 8 some other way?

Please help! It is my first Kindle and I so want it to be perfect!

You really, really need to jail break your Kindle, that is the entire point.

Specifics of how you tried doing Step 5.
Include type of device, device's OS, download software - **ALL** specifics of what you did, or tried to do.

@s1s2s3s4s5: you missed something in step 5.. Downgrade back to the initial factory image then try 5 again. Do not proceed further unless you get the jail broken message and document.

@Step #5, the factory image is still installed.

It is only PCs (usually MacOSx) using a "safe downloader" that destroys the Step #5 tar bomb in the process of saving it to disk.

I still am working on the other, major, edits that span most of the document.

It is getting hard to be sure I will not be making it worse than making it better with any changes.
But this one has showed up several times recently.

Right now, we are missing support for about four models, I hope to fix that RSN also.

My PC is Macbook Air Mid2012, OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.6. I've downloaded the file using Safari (Version 9.1.3 (11601.7.8)) downloader.
Regarding what I did - I downloaded the file, copied the file in the topmost, visible level of USB storage (alongside of /documents). Safely removed Kindle from the PC. In the search bar, typed ;installHtml and pressed return.
Kindle rebooted but no message appeared.

Should I try once again from the Step 1?
Should I try Step 5 using Parallels Desktop (from Windows)?

That combination is one that tries to be 'user helpful' with a 'safe down load' option -
That is, it opens and 'fixes' the content paths so your system will not be harmed.
The only thing is, the content paths **MUST** be full paths for the archive to do its job.

Your choices:
Disable the 'safe down loads' option -
or
Open a terminal window on the Mac -
Change to whatever directory you prefer to keep your downloads in -
Use wget to do the downloading (IIRC, wget is pre-installed).
full directions - remember the man(ual) command is your friend (in that terminal or in a web search engine).

If installed, that would be

wget https://www.mobileread.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=150210&d=1468542166

If wget is not pre-installed on your Mac, try curl instead.
(man curl, man wget to read their directions)

Make sure that however you move that archive to the Kindle for Step #5, do not let anything be overly helpful and overly protective - use whatever will move the file without opening it and making it "safe".

Since you did Step #7 - your Kindle is now running customer firmware.
You can only JB the initial factory firmware - the one they use during production.
So back up to Step #1 and start over.

I've followed your recommendation and started over from Step#1.
For Step#5 I've used the file that have been downloaded using Windows PC and I've got a message the "You're jailbreaken". Thanks a lot for your support!

I have reset the device.
I've downgraded it using the PW3 files above.
I've added the JB file and run using ";installHtml"
The device then restarts, but I do not get a new book titled "You are Jailbroken"

Get the first six characters of the device's serial number from your Amazon "manage devices" account page -
Follow directions in Step #1 -
Unless they (Amazon) released another model without our permission, it is probably supported. **
But the table entry is the definitive answer.

Yes, it is a KT3 here.

** Sometimes, Amazon does things without asking us first.

(But I don't remember which type of device he had, so make sure you follow the steps correct for YOUR device.)

I saw Ron's post, and I could not find anyone responding to it, which is odd. So I'm still left with no solution. I am exceedingly confident after multiple times through that I am downloading the correct files according to my devices serial number and this thread's instructions.

I have two specific question, the first: how I identify my specific model?, my serial number begin with G090 G105, is it G090G1 model? or is it just G090 model?;

my second question is about jail break, my PW3 has 5.8.5.0.2 firmware version (it update in front of my eyes without me being able to do anything ). With that firmware Can I do jail break on my Kindle?
