Question ADE version and borrowing a library book

Is ADE 4.5.x buggy and/or does it have issues with Kobo?

Background
I'm new to Kobo (my H2O arrived last night), and I spent several hours trying to borrow a book from the library.

I think I finally have it working correctly now that I installed ADE 3.0.

Originally, I installed ADE 4.5.2, and then tried again with 4.5.3, but I kept having issues with copying the book to the Kobo -- either it wouldn't copy, or it would copy, but I couldn't read it because of DRM.

It sounds as if your library is using Adobe's updated DRM scheme when supported by the your end. That's the main reason I still using ADE 2.0.1 so the old Adobe DRM gets used.

Around these part we generally advocate the use of ADE 2.0.1. I can verify that it works with my local library and my H2O flawlessly. YMMV.

Thanks for the info! If I run into more issues, I'll downgrade to 2.0.1.

When you run into more issues, it will be too late and you'll lose access to that eBook. So don't wait and replace ADE 3.x with ADE 2.0.1 NOW.

so doing what the publishers want you to do- installing & checking out with the latest ADE, then moving the book to your ( Adobe-activated) reader with the DRM still intact-
is that 100% compliant route actually broken ?. do Kobo not ever talk to Adobe ?

I'm not 100% sure, but the version RMDSK (ADE) used by Kobo might be able to handle the new DRM.

You need a version of RMSDK that supports the hardened DRM scheme. I haven't checked lately but the version used in Kobo's current firmware should support the newer DRM. OTOH, I see no reason to update my version of ADE until the library says I need to update or forget downloading ebooks.
