The pricing argument for the Oasis vs the Aura One completely falls apart if you're in Canada. In the US, yes, they're close. But here... the Aura One is $249.99CDN. An official sleepcover is $59.99.
The Oasis? While I give Amazon credit that the Oasis is available in Canada at all (it took them years to bring the Voyage here) the Oasis is an astronomical $399.99 CDN. So that's a $90.01 difference. If you decide to go with a 3rd party cover, or no cover, the price difference is even more pronounced. |

I agree that the cost of the Oasis in Canada is just ridiculous. But as of right now, with the exchange rate, the Oasis would cost $385.21 (CAD). So $399.99 is not that out of line with the exchange rate. So in Canada, the Aura One is a much better value than the Oasis. |

I'm not sure what the point is comparing the KA1 with the oasis. For better or for worse, there's a big size differential, like an iPad mini vs a regular iPad. Also, if someone (like me, for example) doesn't use a cover, then having to pay for an included cover is a big minus.
I didn't buy the KA1 after reading the reviews here and deciding on the whole against it. Went with a refurbed voyage for $120 instead. But I would've liked a larger screen. I notice I use a bigger font when reading on my 10.5" tablet just because there's more room. On the 6" kindle, I'm using a slightly smaller font than strictly comfortable just so I can have a decent amount of text on screen. As for the size, it seems to me the bigger size is better for reading in bed because it's actually easier to prop a larger device up on my chest when lying on my back or against the pillow when lying on my side. It's only when I'm out and about that the larger size may be a problem. I probably shouldn't be reading while walking anyway ![]() |

Have you ever tried reading in landscape mode? A lot of the time I find it more comfortable and readable. The only thing is that you lose the "page press" buttons. I tried reading the Aura One in bed last night. I felt it would have been better in landscape mode, but I'll have to wait until I get Koreader installed before I can do that. I felt that my eyes would have preferred the longer journey from left to right, instead of the large top to bottom movement. I was also disappointed by the color of the screen. The top was a nice yellowish color, like old paper. But at the bottom it was sort of green. I found it really distracting. In the end I just set it to the blue-ish light setting, which is not the warm tone I want while going to bed, but at least it is consistent. That is the sort of thing I think Kobo will probably fix in later versions of the Aura One, and I'll wish I had waited before buying mine. |

I meant that if you went with a third party cover or no cover for your Aura One (not recommended, but still an available option) the price difference between the two is even more pronounced.

The sole reason I got it was the comfort light screen. Personally, I wouldve liked it a bit more red and peachy than banana yellow, but its still good enough that I wont be able to use another ereader without this feature ever again.
I really dont get why every e-reader hasnt got all out RGB frontlight that you can cusotmize however you want. It is like the most important feature and really sets it above regular books. I feel many manufactorers think "In order to win over regular book-readers we need to cram in as many features as possible", which I believe is contraproductive. Give me a good screen, clutter-free, non-delicate UI and a grippy form factor preferably with nice physical buttons and Im set. Last edited by Dino84; 04-01-2017 at 11:20 AM. |

Last night I got to see the KA1 when I went to chapters. The screen size is flush and perfect. If the H2O had been made with a flush screen and the same screen size I would've been so happy. It's just perfect for reading manga and other things, and it's not a small screen size. I don't care much for the natural light feature because I only read when I have an outside source of light. It felt so thin and easy to hold. The downside is there's no SD slot- even if 8GB is a lot, if you use PDF or comics on the ereader the size fills up fast.

Banana yellow? Not on my KA1. Mine is a soft orange/peach colour. Very nice.

I hate to say this, but it seems that color blobs/shifts are an issue with capacitive touch. I've not read of such with IR touch. This goes for both Kobo and Amazon.
