It compares very favorably. Its a 4-panel comic. Each comic is loosely related and there is character development. It is very self-aware and is not afraid to make fun of every trope it is portraying. At times, it is hysterically funny. The anime adaptation was very faithful and had me in tears a few times due to its hilarity.

Savage Homecoming
Omega Force #3 Joshua Dalzelle 3 Stars Not a bad entry in the "A-Team in Space" series. The group got a little petty with each other in their verbal sparring, which was just odd. Not sure if it is intended to convey something that didn't come across or what Dalzelle was trying to do. Really hoping it doesn't continue though. |

Finished The End Game. Raymond Khoury, better known for his debut novel The Last Templar,*has brought his beloved protagonist, FBI Special Agent Sean Reilly, back for another adventure in his latest book The End Game.
The End Game is the fifth book to feature Sean Reilly, who previously*appeared in The Last Templar, The Templar Salvation, The Devil’s Elixir and Rasputin’s Shadow. Although his last two books *lost a little bit of the magic that made his*earlier work so popular, I think that magic has back in this latest novel, released in March 2016. Next I am planning to take up Daniel Jacobus' mystery novel Danse Macabre. |

Read A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman.
For some reason it reminded me of the Vent and Rant thread. ![]() |

Death's City
Warhammer Sandy Mitchell 3 Stars This is my second Warhammer novel. After I finish the third book I think I'm going to need some help to figure out just what do read in that universe next. Probably hunt down a wiki page or something. I don't mind reading random series in the Forgotten Realms, as that is ongoing, but since Warhammer is done, I'd like some order since I'm sure the ending books are built upon previous ones. |

But while that book worked quite well with only a vague remembrance of the earlier trilogy (and got 5/5 from me when I read it), this book brings back in elements from the earlier books in a big way, and I feel that I would have got much more out of it if I had re-read the earlier books first. Apart from that, very good indeed. I'm just pondering whether I should re-read the earlier trilogy before going on to the final volume of this one. But next up, a series I've heard about quite a lot, but I've put off for the very bad reason that it makes me think of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five. (The books's plots are not connected. It's just the main character's name and the book title that put me off.) Yes, it's the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher. So I'm starting on Storm Front, the first in the series. |

Things have been going slow for me lately: I am breaking-in a new OS, among other things and just haven't been reading at my usual rate. This is in no way a criticism of the book I am currently reading, though: The Norman Conquest: The Battle of Hastings and the Fall of Anglo-Saxon England by Marc Morris.
This book meshes well with the Bayeux Tapestry book I read a couple years ago, and is in fact referenced in this work, briefly. |

I finally finished Cold Days by Jim Butcher. It was good, it just takes me awhile to read anything these days. *sigh*
Now starting on Hall of Heroes by John Jackson Miller to conclude the Star Trek Prey trilogy. I wasn't enjoying the Star Trek at all which is strange. It was becoming a chore to read (all the weird names!!!!) so I finally gave up! If I'm not liking something why torture myself??? I picked up Murder in the Secret Garden by Ellery Adams. A nice cozy mystery!! It's going good so far. Last edited by PurpleStar; 01-28-2017 at 10:25 AM. |

This book was offered free from Harper Collins. A sincere thanks to them. And the sequel is available for a reasonable $3.99 which I'll definitely read. Solid B [4 stars]. Unsure of my next read. |

Just finished The Whistler by John Grisham and it was a typically great book by this excellent author. Next up Final Account by Peter Robinson. First one of his I've read and so far it looks very good.

My reading this year seems to be following weekly themes. I didn't plan it that way, but I'm rolling with it now. I almost started Superhero Books on Sunday, but formatting issues got in the way and had to be fixed... so I spent my day doing that instead.
![]() However, I now have five candidates loaded and/or reloaded, and Lexie Dunne's third "Superheroes Anonymous" book, How to Save the World, is first on my list. After that, I've got three novels and a short story in the "Kid Sensation" series, with three more novels available in the series if I enjoy these. Not sure what next week will bring, but at least I'm making some progress! |

I love the Lexie Dunn books.
I think the Richard Roberts Please Don't Tell My Parents... books are nearly as good. They are certainly fun. |
