If I remember correctly there was someone in this thread having the same problem and I think they solved it with a hard reset and putting the new firmware on once again. But before you try this, please make sure my memory doesn't fail me and search the thread. Or ask David For, he is my hero and seems to know everything about the Kobos. That was me, and this is correct: factory reset then install all updates.

If correctly coded, wifi off should mean that auto-sync is off as well (even if the check mark is on), as it's logical that auto-sync will never succeed. There's no point in even trying if wifi is off.

With koreader you have inbuilt OPDS support and recently there is added framework that in future probably would support many cloud services, but at the moment only Dropbox is actually implemented.

With KSM you can also use syncthing (something like your own private synchronization server, after you set it up): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=82

KSM+koreader is one of additional programs you need to install, but it is fairly easy after you read instructions.

No, auto-sync being on means that once a day it does a full sync. There was a bug that meant the auto-sync couldn't be turned off and other bugs that meant any sync could fail in such a way that it continued using lots of CPU. These bugs have been fixed and should not be causing a problem with the 4.2.x firmware.

Turning the auto-sync off, last night my battery was 44%, this morning, 42%. No big drain this time. So it *may* have made a difference having it turned off.

I do think I'll do a full factory reset when I've finished my current book.

My cheap Chinese cover is dark blue--very nice. I also have a Forefront purple orgami cover on order from Great Britian--per eBay estimate is supposed to arrive in California sometime between February 3 and February 10. I have a weakness for buying covers for all my devices.

This will include the update to 4.2 without stepping through the intermediate firmware. Some of the battery issues have stuck with some devices even when the update was installed. I seem to be the only one on this forum who is still running the original firmware it came with (and I got it from day one!) and not have any battery problems! Never had them even... I think I've charged the device 4 or 5 times now...

After reading the whole of this thread over the last couple of days, I have placed an order for the KA1 ! (From the Canadian Indigo whatsit site). I had it in my basket last night, slept on it, and decided the risk of getting a dodgy screen was worth the gamble and completed the order just now. I have always had kindles - starting with the K2, then the first PW, then the Voyage (after which I may have bought a DX due to frustration reading on such a small screen, ha ha). I have calibre already, so will spend the three weeks until the Aura One arrives making sure everything is ready to transfer. We moved house last year, and we now have a pool, so the waterproof function really appeals to me too - I can read when my kids are splashing about and not have to worry.

I have been waiting for about five years for amazon to come up with a modern, larger screened reader and after the release of the Oasis, I finally accepted that they are never going to deliver.

Soo excited, but when it arrives, I need to keep it until my birthday in April (early birthday present), not sure if I'll be able to do that though.

ETA: The only time prior to this that I tried to leave the amazon ecosystem was when I ordered an Onyx Book/boox, sorry, not checking the name - this arrived at my door DOA, so I'm really hoping the same thing doesn't happen this time. The failure of the Onyx led me to try the DX - I did like this, but it was just too clunky in the end...

I'm in the same boat as you, although I opted for an H2O. Now, I'm kind of wishing I had gone for an Aura One.

I'm thinking you'll be opening an early birthday present! I know there is no way I could allow a new gadget to sit on my desk for several months without trying it out. :-)

You'll have to at least set it up and put some books on it to see if it actually works.

To test it fully, you might read a single book on it before your birthday, just to make sure. I'd vouch for the Song of Ice and Fire omnibus.

Unless it's out of stock, it should be there in a lot less than 3 weeks (I'd guess it should be there next week) even if you got a shipping date estimate that far out (they are very conservative in their estimates due to the potential for random holdups at customs). So you'll likely have to hold out on using it a lot longer than you think

@Katsunami Yes, it's important to make sure I have a good unit in case I need to return and exchange it. I do already have the five Ice and Fire books - got to half way through number three. This is one of the many books I have that I'm hoping I get back into reading again, once I have the bigger screen. I actually bought the five books separately as I find it very demoralizing reading for hours and hours and seeing no percentage change.

@kansaskyle I was very interested in the H20 when it came out, but I decided to wait, just in case someone came up with an even bigger reader which was also waterproof. I think it's worth the gamble (I hope).

@robko - Wow, that's interesting - I was wondering why the delivery date was so far out - it was listed as in stock, and I actually phoned the company up afterwards (due to a sleepcover order mix-up on my part) so I know it actually is in stock.
