Sorry chaps,
I wasn't trying the full command, to actually do a book, just trying to run the script as I assumed it was like the mobi one whereby it would at least give the information on what it was, so I was running, from Terminal: Howard:~ Howard$ /Users/Howard/Desktop/Ereader2html/ereader2html.py -bash: /Users/Howard/Desktop/Ereader2html/ereader2html.py: Permission denied Howard:~ Howard$ I thought I'd see that I could a least run it before buying an encrypted book now that I cannot seem to buy the Mobi ones from my usual sources. (I'm in the UK). I only have a DRM free book at present and I know the script doesn't work on them. However I thought I'd at least get a set of running instructions, ie the usual how to use and format. (The script itself seems to suggest I should) regards |

Try: python ereader2html.py
The reason for this suggestion is that under Unix a file must have "execute" permission to be used as a stand-alone command. The Mac seems to be a bit different, but I think something similar is going on. I don't know how to change permissions on a Mac, but python should still be able to execute the script directly. You should then get the usage message you are looking for. |

chmod 755 ereader2html.py But, those scripts don't have a shebang in them. So, bash won't know how to run them. If you add the shebang it should work. Also, I have found that I needed to change the line endings to Unix type rather than the DOS type that was in the files that I downloaded. But passing it to python should work fine even if it isn't marked executable: python ereader2html.py Should return a usage banner. BOb |

Wallcraft & Pilotbob. Many thanks. Stuffing Python in front worked. I had tried making the script "executable" but that went pear shaped too.
Now a happy bunny & off to try a book :-) |

Hi,
I haven't had any issues using ereader2html on several secure eReader books I've bought on fictionwise... however I noticed today that although I could convert Iain Banks "Use of Weapons", I noticed that a lot of the punctuation appears to be screwed... in particular, quotes. eg, instead of: "See anything?", rumbled the voice under the table. I get: See anything? rumbled the voice under the table. Any suggestions on getting around this? Thanks... |

I saw that too but didn't get around to looking to fix it as I don't often buy eReader, so far I've just ignored that, but really should check out how east it'd be to fix the HTML. I don't know python so I'm not planning to check out the script itself!

This seems to be the only novel I've had issues with. Everything else I've converted has been no problem... I wonder why it's different?
Anyways, if you figure out a workaround lemme know ![]() |

When you view this eBook before it's converted, do you get proper quotes?

Good question... I don't know. I use to own a Palm Tungsten T2... which has now died. Now I have a Sony PRS505, hence my need to convert. The only formats offered for this particular novel at fictionwise is Mobi or eReader. If there were any other formats available that would work for me I'd be more than happy to re-purchase again, (especially seeing as it's going for $1 a pop). I don't suppose there's a virtual pdb viewer I could run on my PC?

You could also download the Windows MOBI Reader (to get a PID) and buy the MOBI version. Its DRM is just as easy to strip as the eReader version. |

Thanks wallcraft, that did the trick.
First I viewed the eReader version with the PC viewer, and it indeed had correct punctuation... so then I bought the MOBI version, and it worked much better. And I only had to buy the book twice! ![]() ![]() Lucky it was only a buck! Cheers again... ![]() |

Drawback is that I'm in the UK so can't re-buy it, oh well...

Well I'm an aussie and had the same issue... but if you're getting the book from fictionwise, you can just change your profile to US and it will let you get it, (so long as you use MicroPay). You can then change it back and you can still download it from your bookshelf.

Yeah that one threw me off for a bit too... but you just have to go to the book detail where it gives you a dropdown combo box of the different formats... then choose the mobi format and add to cart. If you just choose add to cart one level up, (i.e. where it has no drop down box), it says you already have it and won't let you get it.
