Fortunately, I have no interest in the stand aspect, I have several great 3Feet folding stands that I prefer anyway. I'd rather have my cover stay semi-rigid than do any brute force bending!

I agree, the price tag is high, but my original Kobo cover for the Aura HD is still looking great and going strong after 3 years, so I figure I'll get my money's worth. My Aura HD cover is ten times more pleasurable in use than the cheaper cover I got for my husband's Aura HD, which, after he abandoned it, I've been using to proofread scanned books.
Glad to help.

One aspect that made me decide to finally get the original cover despite the price is that I'll probably be using this reader for a long time. If there hadn't been a 7.8 inch reader, I'd probably still use my four year old Kindle. The one thing I need is to read books, with as much options and customization related to reading (this includes things such as Time To Read, but not stuff like Facebook or Pocket).

I'd never go smaller than a 6 inch screen. I've already determined that I'd never go bigger than a 7.8 inch screen either. The only thing which would get me to upgrade is if Kobo released a reader with an 8 or 8.1 inch screen, WITHOUT increasing the reader size beyond that of the KA1. One of the ways of doing this would be to make the screen longer, cutting down on the top and bottom bezels. (If E-Ink would create such a screen, that is.)

Although, I don't know if 7.8 -> 8.1 inch would be enough to upgrade; I never found 6 -> 6.8 inch to be worth it.

I am looking at Marston Bindery https://www.marstonbindery.co.uk/ it seems their medium size case will fit.

However there is an issue, Kobo Aura One has the power button at the back of the device.
So I wonder how this will work.

I am thinking to put a shirt button on the case, so when I pressed the top right area of the device the power button will get pressed.

Anyone has used this case before?

Might work but more likely to accidentally push power button. Hollow hole punch used to punch holes in leather or gasket materials is what is needed. Buy set or single hole punch at building supply, or tool supply for cars or boats.

Maybe make one for one time use from 6" long 1/2 inch electrical conduit. Sharpen one end and hit other end with hammer. Protect eyes with safety glasses.

Tanks for the idea filmo.
Maybe I could give the exact position and diameter to Marston Bindery and ask them to do it for me,

I got the reply from Marston Bindery, the main issue according to them the back of the device is not smooth hence it cannot attach to the grip they used in the case.

Too bad, because I like the style, used similar case for other tablets before.

How do you like it so far? Is the cover staying shut in your bag? And do you love your ONE now or not? I am dying to know, me being nosy and all, ya know

Well, it's serviceable.

Good points:
- The cover works 100% of the time, up until now.
- It stays shut as far as I've been able to see.

Bad points:
- On the lower edge, the cover just grabs the corners. It should have been full length, except for a small cut-out for the USB-port. Because the cover has a soft back, it's very easy to just pull it back, and the cover comes off the reader.
- The cover is not 100% straight. When shut, the lower right corner sticks out half a millimeter or so while the upper right one doesn't. (The KPW1 often sits askew in its cover as well, despite the retaining flap, so I concede this point.)

Taste-dependent points:
- It could have been thicker. A lot thicker as far as I'm concerned. I'm used to my KPW1 reader+cover, and that combination is twice as thick as the KA1+cover. (Also, the KPW1 cover has two magnets: one at each corner, while the KA1 cover has only one, slightly below the middle.) I feel as if I can literally throw the KPW1 across the street without damaging the reader, when in its cover. I don't think I can do this with the KA1 in the official cover. It does work to keep the reader from getting damaged when it's in a bag, though.

The one point I don't like is that the cover can be removed so easily.

I could still return it, but then I'd have to go and play the third party cover lottery again, trying to get a cover with a stable sleep function, and one that doesn't shut the reader off when folded back.

I think I'm going to 'fix' the official cover by putting some strips of double-sided tape on the top and bottom. I have some stuff that's quite strong, but still removable.

So, is this cover worth the €50? No, IMHO it's not. It shouldn't have cost more than €20 at the most. If you have a working China-cover you like, stick with it.

With regard to the KA1, I hate the fact that I have to set it up over Wifi or Kobo Desktop. I don't want to do it over wifi because my Kobo account password is an abomination (it looks a bit like "kdo@#$1445FI&*&*924"), and Kobo Desktop is unstable, and doesn't respect high-dpi settings in Windows; so the buttons and text are tiny.

MS fixed / did something with regard to USB in Windows 10 version 1607 (anniversary update), and the KA1 using its default firmware has great problems connecting through USB. It connects once. Kindly use the opportunity to upgrade it, or it won't connect ever again, without resorting to third party utilities (Nirsoft USBDeview, to be precise, to remove and reset the USB connection.) None of other devices has a problem with the changes MS made, so Kobo was doing something with regard to USB it shouldn't have been doing all along.

I also don't like the fact that after years and years, the full screen option is still not official, and when you use it, you need CSS-fixes that can (fortunately) be injected into the books by Calibre and the Extended driver.

Let's just say that there are a few redeeming points which make me use the KA1 instead of the KPW1:

- 7.8 inch screen instead of 6.0 inch
- More font size options (Kindle is often too small at 4, too big at 5, and unusable at 6).
- I can now actually put a selection of books onto the reader, so I can choose what to read when finishing a book, because Calibre can manage collections.
- The KA1 reading/progress stats are more extensive and more accurate than the KPW1's. The KPW1 often sometimes cuts Time To Read into half, for no apparent reason.

So, with regard to reliability and cover selection, the Kindle is superior.
With regard to actual reading, the Kobo is better.

I like the reader as it is working now, so I think I'm going to archive firmware version 4.2.8110 and keep it at hand if there are upgrades. If I don't like something (for example, full screen mode breaks even with the CSS fixes), I can return to it.

So yes, after I smack some double-sided table between the reader and that horrendously overpriced, but working cover, I think I'm going to switch to the KA1 permanently; running firmware 4.2.8110 forever, if necessary. The KPW1 will become a backup reader.

Darling, you are complicated (but sweet)!!!!

And if you wouldn't insist on a black cover, you could have had a perfect one. Just sayin'.

I can't follow your problems with Windows 10 and the reader. Too complicated tech talk for a simple gal like me. But it is somewhat baffling as I also have a Windows 10 computer, calibre and the ONE and had no problems with them. But then I did the firmware upgrade but switching on the wifi. And calibre sorted out the other stuff with Windows for me.

As long as you like reading with it, it does fulfill its purpose. So I am happy for you.

You'll only have this problem if you have a fully updated Windows 10 and connect an out of the box (or factory reset) KA1 from September 2016 to it. The problem has been resolved with newer firmware.

I've ordered some double-sided tape so the cover stays where it should.

I just get furious if I buy something, and I spot a problem within minutes. I always think that if *I* can, the people designing this stuff certainly should be able to. It's ridiculous that I need to use double-sided tape to make sure the lower edge of the cover will actually stay put. On a €50 cover.

This cover is working for me and you have one almost black , and it fits nicely. I had problems with W10 the other day, but I'm afraid it was the USB cord, as not only KA1 but my Aura had the problem.

And I don't go near desktop, demons away, only calibre, but I'm a very plain girl for reading... my bookshelf is another matter

I think I connected my One once or twice to my Surface (which is the only device running Windows 10 I have atm). I did have that problem on my Windows 7 though... But I've no idea how I fixed it, as I never updated the firmware (still running 4.0.7523).

Kobo has a desktop? I only know my Windows desktop

I never even looked at the Kobo application, I just entered that not-so-awesome-but-still-strong-password I have for my Wifi and Kobo once and forgot about it.
