[Android] Night Viewing

Somehow night viewing was turned on in CC. It has a black background with white text. I do not know how to turn this off and it is very annoying to me. Please Charley help me fix this.

First, its "chaley" as in Charles Haley, not "charley". For some reason I have never accepted charley as a nickname. I am strange that way, and in many other ways as well.

You can turn night view on and off using "Night View" checkbox that is in the app menu (three dots) when looking at either the book list or the cover grid. Tapping the line will check or uncheck the line and turn the view on or off. If the menu line "Night view" is not shown then you changed CC's settings to remove it. To put the line back so you can change the setting go to Settings / Menus and check the box "Show Night View". Go back to the book list/grid and change the setting. At that point you can go back to the Settings to remove the line from the menu so you can't accidentally tap it again.

When going to settings all I see is black. I have no option to pick from.

Also, which Fire is this happening on? If it is a Fire 7, what version of Fire OS are you running?

I am running OS V5.3.2.1 on my Fire 7.

EDIT: Have you installed any apps that change the "theme" of the Fire? Change the color scheme? It seems that the background of your first image (book details) is transparent, not black.

I am running 5.3.1.1
I have checked and it states no updates found.
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7 (4th generation)

I have not installed apps. Only thing I have done is loaded books via wireless connection. The only time I am not in CC is when reading or going to settings to turn on WiFi so I can send books to the device. I do not use the Kindle for anything except reading.

Yes you have everything accurate.

In the About/Help file it shows I am using version 5.2.2.3 (352) I do not know how to get it to check for any updates.

Apologies for the delay. Family events (good ones) are taking most of my energies.

Weird that the update date is in December. That version was put on Amazon on November 28. Is December 28th around the time when the problem started happening?

Looking at my Fire 7, it seems that one can check for updates by doing the following:
  1. Turn on WiFi.
  2. Go to the App Store
  3. Tap the "hamburger" (the three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner and choose "App Updates"
I don't know if some time is required after turning on WiFi to allow the App Store to check for updates.

You might want to check if app automatic updates are enabled. To do this:
  1. Go to Settings, then Apps and Games
  2. Tap "Amazon Application Settings
  3. Tap Appstore
  4. Verify that Automatic Updates is enabled

Another thing you can try that is harmless if it doesn't do anything: clearing CC's "application cache". To do this:
  1. Go to Settings, then Apps and Games
  2. Tap Manage All Applications
  3. Tap Calibre Companion
  4. Tap the "Clear Cache" button. Don't tap the "Clear Data" button.
  5. Go back to the Home screen and restart CC.

I normally only connect once maybe twice a month. I load enough books to get me thru a month. I know I connected one day between Christmas and New Years day. Last time I connected was over the Thanksgiving holiday. I was working 7 days a week 12 hours a day. So I load up a lot to save time and know I always have something to read.

Yes that is around the time I started having problems.

I have tried to check for updates but nothing is showing up.

Auto updates is checked.

Cache has been cleared. I also hit the little square button on the bottom of my Kindle and shutdown everything that was running in the background. I shut the Kindle down and restarted. Still have the same problem.

I will not lie this is annoying but it is not that big a deal if we cannot figure it out. I will be getting a new Kindle later this month so if not fixed it will not matter.

Please do not worry about being late/slow in responding. Being/spending time with family is more important.

I suspect that you must leave your WiFi on for some time, perhaps overnight, so the tablet can check with the Amazon App Store.

My only theory is that the last upgrade went bad for some reason, but not so bad that CC totally crashed. That is the only way I can explain what you are seeing. There is no combination of CC options that could cause it. It I am right then things might get fixed in the next upgrade. At least I hope so.

I leave the WiFi on for a couple of hours usually. I have left the WiFi on all weekend. I have checked several times a day for any updates. But it is not updating for some strange reason. I am not worried about it. Since my new one will be here one day this week.

I honestly do not know why it is going me problems. I would be lost without CC. To me it is the best, most amazing app ever created.

It isn't a bother. Something is broken and I would like to know what.

After you get your new Kindle (is it a fire?) and begin the process of retiring the old one, one thing you could try is to uninstall and reinstall CC. I haven't suggested that to this point because doing so will reinitialize the CC library. Normally this isn't a problem because one can restore the library from a backup, but in your case the settings problem prevents you from making the backup in the first place.
