The U.K. is a nice place to visit this time of year. And I saw a roundtrip air promotion to London for only $700.

The Head of Zeus free promo is most likely not a geo-restriction issue. I live in the United States and I was able to get both The Throwaway Children and it's sequel. I went back and now I can add the paid books but not the free ones.

Buy this VERY Highly Rated Thriller/Crime Book for 99 Cents Today; Nothing Tomorrow!

ADDENDUM: There are also about seven free ebooks, available from the promo webpage, that are available both today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday). Sorry that I missed them earlier!

The book is Who is Harrison Sawyer, by Aaron D. Gansky. It's a thriller/crime book.

It's 99 cents today (Monday); it will be free tomorrow (Tuesday).

For your convenience, here is the Amazon webpage for the book. And here is the dedicated GoodReads webpage.

Frankly, I don't see the rationale. But those are the facts. If you get it today, you're guaranteed a 99 cent (very good) price. If you wait until tomorrow, so as to get it free, you may forget about it and lose out altogether.

Go to this webpage and you'll see exactly what I saw in the email that I got about it. Scroll about halfway down the page.

Lanny Budd novels $2.99 each

Open Road Media has the first 8 (of 11) Lanny Budd novels by Sinclair Lewis on sale for $2.99 through the end of today at Amazon, B&N and Kobo. If you want to save 30 cents by building store credit at Kobo, you can get them there in an hour, but it will mean paying full price ($12/book) and then getting $9.30 back in credit sometime in the next week or so.

World’s End" begins when Lanny is a precocious 13 years old. At age nineteen after an idyllic childhood spent primarily on the Rivera, mixing with the working people and the rich and powerful he meets through his father and his business partners and, through his mother and her influential friends, the upper crust of European social affairs. He accompanies his father to Versailles at the close of World War I as an interpreter because of his excellent command of foreign languages. He develops lifelong friendships with important figures he meets at the Peace Conference who play important parts throughout the epic series. World’s End calls attention to the harsh attitudes of the Allied leaders towards the defeated German people, and foreshadows the miseries they caused in post-war Germany which were to lay the groundwork for the rise of Hitler, Mussolini and Franco. Later novels in this series follow Lanny, as a member of the French Underground, daring rescues of political prisoners in Spain and Germany through the Second World War and as a special agent for eight years to President Franklin Roosevelt. Lanny meets with Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, General Patton, Hermann Goring, Rudolph Hess, and Adolph Hilter, Henry Ford and Randolph Hearst and many more titans over the course of the first 10 books. This epic series takes you from the French Rivera, to Paris, London, Berlin, Moscow, Hong Kong, China, Russia, Washington D.C., New York, Florida and California. Lanny encounters many dangerous missions and has numerous escapes from the Franco, Mussolini and Hitler gangsters.

The third book, Dragons Teeth won the Pulitzer Prize for best novel of 1943.

Guy of Gisburne Omnibus $0.99 at Amazon

Guy of Gisburne, an omnibus of the first two novels in the Hunter of Sherwood series by Toby Venables (Knight of Shadows and The Red Hand) is on sale at Amazon (US) for 99 cents. This is a retelling of the Robin Hood story with Guy as the hero of the story, King John is a good guy, and Richard the Lionheart is not, having nearly brought the Kingdom to ruin, and Robin Hood is a traitor and a minor character. I haven't read it yet, but the reviews are mostly good, and 99 cents is a great price. The third of the series, Hood, is due out next month, so this could be a promotional price, but if so, it's only priced this cheaply at Amazon. I just bought it at Kobo and price matched it, but lately it's been taking Kobo more than 3 business days to get around to crediting price matches.

Vertigo, by W.G. Sebald, is currently $1.99 at Amazon, list $16.95. Here's the blurb:

Quote:
Perfectly titled, Vertigo —W.G. Sebald's marvelous first novel — is a work that teeters on the edge: compelling, puzzling, and deeply unsettling.

An unnamed narrator, beset by nervous ailments, journeys accross Europe to Vienna, Venice, Verona, Riva, and finally to his childhood home in a small Bavarian village. He is also journeying into the past. Traveling in the footsteps of Stendhal, Casanova, and Kafka, the narrator draws the reader, line by line, into a dizzying web of history, biography, legends, literature, and — most perilously — memories.

One FREE HarperCollins Title (from Choice of Four) Just for Signing Up for List.

I'm assuming that most, if not all, of the choices referred to below are fiction of some kind . . . .

I think that this has been a long-term promotion. But some on MobileRead may not have been here long enough to see posts about it, the most recent of which I remember several years ago.

Go to a HarperCollins website. This one is as good as any. If you use that webpage, information about this promo will be at the beginning of your second screen down. The title will say "Bookperk." There will be a greenish bar going across the screen. It will say "Sign Up Now." Click on it.

You'll be taken to a webpage offering to put you on a mailing list. Just for signing up, you will be allowed to download a free ebook. You'll get a choice of one of four titles. In the past, I think that they have changed the choices of titles from time to time, so I don't know what the titles are (I wouldn't have remembered anyway).

That's quite the scam. They got my email but never offered any books. Well... my spam filters are effective.

That really surprises me. If this was some fly-by-night operation, sure, I wouldn't be surprised, but this is HarperCollins! They do have a reputation to protect.

I have long been signed up on BookPerks. I think that I still am, now, that's why I didn't try to test it myself. But, if I'm not subscribed, I'm going to sign up myself and see if I have the same experience that you did.

Stay tuned.

No response yet. I feel like I would have gotten one by now if I was going to get one. But the problem may be that I am/have been a BookPerk subscriber. Would anyone who is not/has not been on their mailing list volunteer to test it out for us?

Signed up using one email that might have signed up in the past. Nothing.

Signed up using one email I created just for this. Nothing.

I will wait until Monday or Tuesday and call it a scam to collect emails.
