January 2017 Special Run-Off Vote
Jan 2017 Mobile Read Book Club Special Run-Off Vote
Since this month's vote resulted in a three-way tie, we are having a Special Run-Off Vote between the three leading candidates. I will not vote in this poll unless my vote is needed to break a tie. This poll will be open for 3 days, and all MobileRead members are invited to participate. Since there are more than two options, this is a visible, multiple-choice poll. We will start the discussion thread for this book on January 20th. Please select from the following three Choices: April: Award Winners (Fiction) • The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu Goodreads | Amazon Ca / Amazon UK / AmazonUS / B&N / Kobo / Overdrive Print Length: 400 pages Spoiler:
May: Science Fiction • The Door Into Summer by Robert A Heinlein Goodreads | Amazon US Print Length: 304 pages Spoiler:
October: Humor • Rivers of London (US title: Midnight Riot) by Ben Aaronovitch Goodreads | Amazon US / Overdrive UK / Overdrive US Print Length: 400 pages Spoiler:

These are clearly books that won't quit. They've now been in a runoff on a second chance round, one was in a run-off already, and another missed a runoff by one vote twice.
I _would_ like to encourage only those who plan on actually reading and participating to vote this time around. I know we're usually pretty open about it, but this seems like a special case, at least to me. |

I didn't get back in time to vote in the first round today but I can't say I am disappointed with this result. I read two of these books earlier this year and both are on my "best of 2016" list - The Three Body Problem and Midnight Riot/Rivers of London. I haven't tried the Heinlein but it sounds great too.

Interestingly, all three of these are ON SALE at 50% off at Audible.com (membership required), but also all three audio books are available for even less as WhisperSync versions. I don't have an opinion about the other two for Audible versions, but for Midnight Riot/Rivers of London, the Audible version is superb and highly recommended.

It's beginning to look at least possible that Tom is going to have to cast a deciding vote. Though we still have a bit more than a full day left, the voting is very close. I wonder when the last time was that Tom had to cast the tie-breaker, or if he ever did?

I started Three-Body after Tor had it as a freebie earlier this year, and gave up about a third of the way through. Midnight Riot sounds pretty good. Last edited by Alohamora; 12-29-2016 at 09:52 AM. |

So I'm still hoping for Heinlein, which is a stretch for me anyway!

Whether it wins here or not, however, I'm looking forward to my buddy read of the series at the beginning of the new year. |

My library doesn't either, but at least the Amazon price is only $7.99, and audio can be added for $3.99.
