Best series (for me of course) are the Discworld books by the sorely missed Terry Pratchett. I am in the process of reading the last book he finished himself (a Shepherd's Crown) which is obviously the most personal book he ever wrote. There might be others yet to be finished by his daughter.

next to that: - Brent Weeks - The way of Shadows - Harry Potter - Young Wizard books - Percy Jackson books - The first three Dune books - Robin Hobb - Liveship Traders - CS Lewis - Chronicles of Narnia - Douglas Adams - Hitchhikers Guide - Darren Shan - Demonata and other series - Most books by Harry Harrison (stainless steel rat etc) And of course the commercial and other (MS/Meulenhof) books. No idea who published them abroad, I'm from the Netherlands. -edit- By the way, there are currently three books (free for download directly from his website!) about James Potter, the son of by C. Norman Lippert. Here's his website, download links at the top: http://www.jamespotterseries.com/muggle_index.html Last edited by sadkingbilly; 02-26-2017 at 02:35 PM. |

I can't imagine picking just one favorite series. I'd have to make a list divided by genre!

I know, I just ran across the thread and felt compelled to throw that out there. Anyway, it's a good thread for those of us who like to read series and looking for new ideas. I just finished Rankin's Rebus and started on Nesbo's Harry Hole series...

Most of my absolute favourites have already been mentioned - HHGTTG, Discworld at the top of the list. Others for me are Asimov's Robots series (love R. Daneel Olivaw and what the series says about human isolation), and for a break from the ugliness of the world, it's hard to beat Wodehouse's Blandings books

I regard Carl Hiaasen's novels as a series, with South Florida as the main continuing character, and Skink as its interpreter... well, sort of. And it has certainly put me off South Florida for life.
