If anyone has any ebucks credit left, spend it now.

I also have some freebies there that I never downloaded. Guess that's what I need to do today when I get home.


ETA: I have 71¢ there. Not going to bother trying a book for that since you cannot combine payment methods.

Are you thinking of Ellora's Cave? I haven't heard anything like that about ARe. Yet that is. Seems like they are offering 10 cents on the dollar for those authors that agree or nothing at all.

They really are not giving any time to folks to backup their books. After the 31st there is no access anymore. 4 days is not enough during holiday time. That's a crappy thing to do to long term customers. Not everyone backs up their stuff right away or at all. And some might not even know how to do that.

Oh well, its why I won't buy anywhere but Amazon anymore. Least chance my books will go poof along with the money I paid for them.

EDIT: I had said I was sorry to see them go, and I am, but after reading some more about what they're doing and how they've handled things I'm not as sorry.

thanks I could not remember the name Ellora's Cave. I only try to download free books from sites like this. I only pay money at Amazon. I think I have everything downloaded.

Very crappy in the 4 days notice and the 10 cents for authors is even worse. I feel sorry for all the authors that are getting screwed.

This is wrong on so many levels. To just close without a proper time frame for customers to back up their books or spend their credit. This is the holidays many are out of town and no access to their computer.

Makes me relieved I never bought from them. All I have are freebies but I feel for those who do have a large library.

Yes, this is very wrong. I have bought several from them, but thankfully, I always download and back up as soon as I purchase a book, no matter from where I purchase it. This has saved me several times. (thinking fictionwise and booksonboard).

I guess those are automated tweets, but an hour ago to 4 hours ago they were still tweeting deals.

My money will only go to the amazon store, I just don't trust anyone else anymore. Thankfully I have learned to backup my stuff.

Addendum: They are not sending that email to all their customers. Only to the ones who are subscribed to the newsletter.

I am no longer sad to see them go. Good riddance to anyone who puts this little thought and consideration into decisions that directly impact their customers to this extent. You will not be missed.
