Kobo fixed the sleep cover problems in firmware 4.2.8110. I'm guessing old software + new hardware had unanticipated complications. It happens.

It's a matter of construction and program execution priority. Most slim fit covers put the lid directly onto the screen. If the sleep magnet is strong enough, it can see the cover closing if it's still half an inch away. Then the reader should just execute it's "sleep button pressed" routine ASAP to avoid problems with the lid touching the screen before the reader is off.

It could go wrong if you snap it shut really, really fast. With my Kindle, that doesn't matter, because the lid of the cover will never touch the screen. The screen's sunken in, and the cover covers the bezels as well, so there's at least a few mm of space between the lid and screen when closed.

That half an inch away bit is the reason I turned off the sleep cover functionality: it reacted on the sleep cover of my Samsung tablet. Whenever I put it near the Kobo, that one would turn on or off (depending on what state it was in). I also had that problem with my H2O, but to a lesser extent.

Currently using a Moko case, not sleep but nice and sturdy. I originally bought a ForeFront case but the quality was terrible. The reader didn't fit in it properly and the lid was flimsy and didn't stay shut. Not missing auto sleep.

I have a cheapo China cover in turquoise now. Works like a charm and is similar enough in colour to go with the shoes, if you don't look to closely And of course I'll receive the equally useless but shoe-matching exchange cover from Noreve eventually.

I got a cheapo cover too. .. In lime green it works!

As for the Noreve cover they are sending you - put it on the floor and use it as a mat for your shoes

Yes, but the point I was trying to make is that the "lid" of the slimfit case on my 3-year-old Aura6" also touches its flush capacitive screen but it still reliably switches the screen on/off exactly as advertised. I could be wrong but I don't remember reading any lengthy threads here about sleepcovers not working with the Aura6". As long as the sleep magnet existed and was in the right position the cover just worked.

My understanding (right or wrong) of what "capacitive touch" meant was that only skin touch (or special stylus) would trigger page turns. So experimenting with page turning comparing my Aura6" and KA1 I observe:
  • using naked finger: both devices turn pages
  • using finger wearing a thin-ish glove: neither turns pages
  • using finger clad in 2 layers (cotton T-shirt + thin polyester sweater): Aura6" doesn't turn pages but KA1 does 90% of the time.
  • using finger clad in cotton T-shirt only: both turn pages
To me that suggests that the KA1 uses a different definition of what "capacitive touch" means than the Aura6". In the above test the KA1 is using the new firmware 4.2.8110 which supposedly contains the fix/improvement although I have no idea what form this fix took, nor whether it is only likely to fix the official case but not the many cheap 3rd-party cases.

Possibly, a cover which covers the bezels makes the sleep function more reliable, as the lid doesn't touch the screen. The sleep function on my KPW1 NEVER EVER fails.

Maybe I'll upgrade the reader, and give it another shot with regard to sleep coers and battery life.

I don't know yet.
I bought a Gecko over. The type that covers the bezel and it didn't work. It would not close because the magnets were misaligned. I bought from Amazon and was easily able to send it back.

Gecko Covers is a Dutch company. It will be even easier for me if I decide to try one.

Jackie_w: the original cover seems to have issues; the KA1 detects touches through the cover, according to this youtube video:

Noreve was very good and sent me another case. I requested the other model because I did not want to give up automatic stand-by. Quality and perfect finishes.

What's the dent in the upper right of the lid?
Does the reader stay on when you fold the lid completely flat against the back?

This information is now dated. The 4.2.8110 update fixes this problem.

That's good to know Then it'll probably fix similar problems with other covers as well.

It is by the pressure of a knot of the bag inside the box, but it is arranged by itself.

Interesting.

I wasn't offered a choice, they just stated they wanted to send me the other style. I wrote them I would not want another style cover, as I had purchased the magnet closure on purpose and would then prefer to get my money back.

Now they tell me, they won't reimburse me and they won't send me another cover as I had said I don't want one. Which is clearly not what I said, but I don't get any answers to my emails now.

So, they actually are no more than common theives, if you ask me. If only I knew where to file a complaint against them, I'd do so immediately.
