1. Read at least $10 worth of books from Kindle Unlimited each month (that is ... get my money's worth)
2. Read at least 12 Newbery Award books. (Stretch goal: Complete all Newbery Award books for 2010-2016: 25 books through 2015, up to 5 more with 2016 awards)

For these, I've read $100.11 worth of books from Kindle Unlimited so far this year. I've borrowed a couple of books, and now I just need to get around to reading them! The good news is that I've read 12 Newbery Award books -- meeting my goal. And, I have 2 Newbery books loaded onto my Kindle and I hope to complete them by the end of the year.

I'm 13 books short now and while I'll still get several in before the end of the year, I won't reach my goal. I'm ok with that though. Family medical issues as well as my own health issues really cut into reading time. I have more modest goals for next year, mostly focusing on NOT BUYING more than how many I can get read.

I'm at 142 books read, about midway between my base goal and my stretch goal. I'll probably finish off a couple more this week, but still, well short of that stretch goal. On the secondary goal front, I'm doing no better than so-so at keeping my challenge list updated and keeping track of what I've spent. My overall expenditures will stay under $50/mo, not counting Audible credits, which is well within what I'm willing to spend. But I need to be a lot better at recording books read and amounts spent.

I just updated my list post with my expected 2016 totals and some screenshots of my reading stats. This assumes I finish my current book by Friday as expected, I should be able to do that easily and won't have time for another.

Overall, this has been a great reading year for me both from a quantity and quality perspective. I have read more books and pages than ever before and have added many books to my "I would re-read that" list. Can't ask for much more than that.

I finished today's short story a while ago, meaning I have managed to read a story every day for an entire calendar year. I've got to be happy with that.

It looks like my other targets have all been met, too, so a good year for reading overall. Not so great in most other ways, but then again, 1916 was the middle of a world war, and 1816 was the Year Without a Summer, so, you know, perspective.

I'd like to do some analysis of my reading and purchasing, but I think I need to be on a real computer for that, not just my old iPad.

And, you remind me that one of my 2016 intentions (it didn't make it to goal status) was to read a poem a day. It fell into abeyance early, unfortunately, and was never revived, but it would be a good one to shoot for in 2017. Thanks for the nudge.

And since I couldn't even manage a daily poem, I have some appreciation for the level of commitment it took for a daily story!

Impressive. Did you read a short story a day on top of the 115 books in your reading list?
