Re: BestBuy deal. There doesn't appear to be any strings attached other than in store purchase only. I thought perhaps there would be a one per customer limit but my SO bought three $25.00 cards and got three $10.00 cards for free.

I went to Best Buy yesterday after seeing the gift card deal. I picked up the $25 card and brought it to the cashier. He never heard of the deal, and when we looked at the flyer on his desk, it wasn't in there. Finally got the internet to work on my phone and showed him the flyer. The trick to get the promotion to work is to scan in the $25 card and the $10 card, which we had to grab from a different shelf, then the computer pops up about the discount.

It expired yesterday. That one was a weekend deal. The Boxing Week promotion is now on. (I forget the discount for that particular one...I'll see if I can find it.)

I've been waiting for a Christmas story to be released on the 21st. It hit Amazon early (today) and the author posted on FB. I asked her about Kobo as I have points to use and she said Kobo have closed uploads so there will be no new books added until after Christmas. Needless to say i'll buy from Amazon, but are Kobo idiots, do they seriously think everything digital shuts down for Christmas.

They are slow to upload anyway, the last book i wanted took three weeks to load on Kobo as the author ended up gifting me a copy as I was waiting so long. No wonder Amazon are in such a dominant position.

Almost all retailers close uploads around Christmas. Kobo closed uploads on the 19th. Apple closes them as well (I don't know the date). Google has been closed to any new authors even joining their network/retail stores for almost 2 years. Those are just the ones I know about. Kobo has had a notice up for at least a month so that authors can plan, but it is not new. It has always been the case with several retailers for a few years.

The retailers do this because many support people take time off for the holidays so they ask us authors to plan ahead.

Also the only reason an upload would take that long is 1. The author is not going direct with Kobo and is using a 3rd party to do the upload 2. There was a problem (such as it did not pass epub check or cover had issues) 3. The author didn't upload in order to take advantage of some sort of Kindle deal for a specified time (by going exclusive).

The third part upload is the most likely issue based on what you are describing. Authors have to plan for that if they choose a third party route.

The author in question uses Smashwords but she said her book uploaded fine without any issues.
