Definitely seems to be US only. Even though I'm in Canada, I do have an amazon US account (in order to send gifts to friends/family in the US), and even logged into my US account, I can't get the freebies.

Looks like the party is winding down. Books that were free this morning now have a price tag. A couple I tried to get that were still free in search results now told me on the confirmation page that they were no longer free in my country, and the non-free price tag was shown. I'm in the US. So much for this all being good through the end of the day on the 20th. I got enough books that I am satisfied now, but was trying to grab a few more based on recommendations.

Very often this. Back when the Baen Free Library was a new thing, Eric Flint noted in one of his essays that many authors who put books up saw significant increases in their previously flat or declining royalties.

It's advertising. It works.

I of course would assert that all Wen Spencer and Bujold books are way above the mediocre. I have them all and reread them all.

My final tally is just under 500. I'll add them to Calibre tonight while sleeping.

It's 8:39 PM here and it looks like the sale is over.

I just checked one author and the price is no longer $0.00 for this author.

Oh well. I was going to pick up Richard S. Prather, Brian Freemantle, and the rest of Howard Fast tomorrow, to add to the 450 or so titles I already got. C'est la vie.

It's a really weird time of day for Amazon North America to end stuff (normally they apply/expire sale prices and the lot a little after midnight Pacific Time) and I personally suspect more glitching of the sort experienced over the weekend rather than a deliberate premature ending.

But I doubt it's likely to get fixed, if that's what it is, by tomorrow.

Incidentally, I can still see exactly four non-PD/permapromo freebies from the sale using this link, if anyone wants to try grabbing them.

I don't know what non-PD/permapromo means, but I see 12 freebies right now using your link.

Freebies that are neither ORM's usual offerings of their editions of public domain works, which they rotate regularly, nor the permanently free promotional novellas for their non-public domain series, nor the introductory guides to assorted works.

Once you subtract those, there are only 4 titles left which were and are apparently still part of the ORM giveaway (two of them by authors recommended upthread, in case anyone was missing any).

Well I managed to snag about 25 titles, which was way less than I wanted. Curse my gnat-sized attention span these days. Great sale!

I got over 200 it will be awhile before I can back them up to count them. Hubby hogs the desktop these days.

Darn, I never got to the sci-fi...guess I'll save some of the author recommendations for the future though.

Oh well - I picked up about a bazillion (not even going to try to count) mysteries - some old friends, some new ones to try - and I'm plenty happy. Many thanks to Open Road if anyone from there is watching Mobile Read!

I got close to 1400 books. I tripled tag teamed with my sister and niece on this bonanza. I wish that Open Road Media had a way that I\We could donate money to them. I would definitely throw a couple hundred bucks there way as thanks for this.

Open request to all artists (Books, Music, Art, etc.), please put a "tip jar" on your Web Site so the people who want to can chip in to help you to continue creating your art.
