Well that's a step forward. If for no other reason other than it's hard to explain the drag and drop un-docking/re-docking process, especially verbally over the phone.

Perhaps the 'pecking order' is determined by the order in which the tab-apple dock widgets are defined/created. IMO it would be better if it was determined by the users language direction - e.g. LTR for English, French, Greek etc, and RTL for Farsi, Hebrew, Arabic etc. Qt 6.2 maybe.

FWIW - Rather than having an application start in whatever shambles it was in (or some approximation thereof) when I last terminated it, I would rather have a facility to define default starting states, including main window size & position, dock site content, optional panels shown etc. The file and image management programs I use facilitate this via an explicit Save Layout action, coupled with a Save/Dont Save Layout on Exit setting. If only . . .

I've discovered that the "precedence" of dock widgets in a tabbed configuration seems to be based on what order (LIFO) they were added to MainWindow in ExtendUI (which handles the default placement of the various widgets in new installations). The fact that restoreState() happens after ExtendUI seems to have no bearing on changing the "natural" precedence of which tab will be current whenever Sigil opens.

The last dock widget added to MainWindow (currently the Clips Editor) will be the one that's open whenever Sigil opens (provided the Clips Editor is currently tabbed with other widgets).

So, what matters most is which widget is added last. For Sigil I would vote for the Book Browser, and for the Calibre editor I would vote for the Files Browser

I experienced slowsmile's disappearing Chrome icon the other day, whereupon FlightCrew complained that a file was unreachable. Lost a couple hours' work. Not a big problem, but I am now FlightCrewing and Saving As in almost every paragraph. 0.9.7 on Windows 7 32 bit.

The disappearing icon has no bearing whatsoever on a file being unreachable, or for any lost work. It's a purely cosmetic quirk. Whatever went wrong with your epub, it wasn't the missing icon that caused it. Sigil 0.9.7 simply doesn't eat html content. Those days are gone.

That would be my vote, too. Followed shortly by the Preview or Table of Contents widget?

But I'm not yet willing to give up on saving/restoring the current displayed (tabbed) dock widget. It has to be doable.
