I'm trying to renew a subscription that expires on Wednesday. The credit card information page has dropdown menus for the expiration date, instead of text fields. Unfortunately, the labels on the dropdown menu are incorrect, and the month I enter is not the month that shows up on the confirmation page, so it won't process my transaction because the date is incorrect. I've opened a support ticket, but their lagtime is usually about 3 weeks (it's an understaffed nonprofit), which is significantly past my Wednesday deadline.

You might try selecting other labels from the dropdown --- try to find the one that is randomly associated with the correct info on the confirmation page.

(it's like trying to find the canned peas, when some helpful child has washed all the cans, so they now have NO labels.....)

Extending the DTV transition date (yet again) is sheer stupidity. I do not understand this decision one bit.

They say "people aren't ready" and there "TV will go dark". Oh noes... gods forbid someone can't watch Oprah. The way the congress critters talk you would think that turning on the telly and not getting anything to watch is akin to a natural disaster? Gee... people can be flooded out of there homes and ignored for days... but don't let them miss any TV.

Many broadcaster don't want to pay for the expense of running both Analog and Digital transmitters. In this time of bad economy do you really want to add an additional burden on all those affiliates?

Are we going to have to pay to do all new advertising to tell people that they dates has changed?

Now, this is even going to cause MORE confusion. Many stations are going to cut off the Analog stations anyway.

WAKE UP PEOPLE! If after 4 years of telling people this was coming people aren't ready do you that 4 more months is going to make a different.

Perhaps people will pick up a DAMN BOOK!!! or Newspaper and use their brain for a change.

This is not the "hope", "change" and "way forward" that I voted for. This is more of the same pandering to the Media companies that think they will lose ad revenue because Neilson told them 6% of TV's aren't ready. How do they even know?

If I "", you know that it is not a mocking one, don't you, Bob? It's an "Ahhh, now that's a vent/rant" smile of satisfaction.

They could still use their TV as a light for their eink reader.

Oh, forgot. They probably can't read.

I agree. Those 6% that aren't ready are only using analog broadcast as backup for when their pirate satellite goes down. Shutdown those analog broadcasts and free up those prime frequencies for digital wireless!

The whole of the US TV system could go "dark" for all I care.

I suppose the kids would whine, though. And the Muffin Man does occasionally get ideas from cooking shows that turn into yummy things in our kitchen.

I'm sick to death of the endless commercials and scrolls about it. But you know who I worry about not converting and losing access to TV? Old people. After taking care of elderly parents and parent-in-laws, etc., I know first hand how difficult it is for them to learn new technology. My in-laws were the worst. They lived out in the country, and when they finally were able to get satellite, we ended up making the long drive again and again over about 5 years to "fix" whatever they had messed up.

All they needed was a TV with an actual dial to turn, but reception was so bad where they lived that they could only pick up one or two channels from the antenna. It was necessary for them to have TV, because we are in tornado country. She liked her soaps, and he liked old westerns. I miss them.

I predict that mandated digital TV will go the way that the mandate to go to the metric system did. I.e. it never happened.

My wife was totally freaked out about that. The only two things that would have directly affected her were the car's speedometer and the width of material for sewing. I asked her how she knew how fast she could go now. She said, "Well duh, I look at the speed limit sign and match my speedometer to it." I told her it would be the same with the metric system. And then I asked her how she bought material. She said, " I look at the pattern and it tells me how many yards of how wide material I need." I again said it would be the same with the metric system except it would say meters and centimeters and the lady at the shop would have to measure it.

The patterns you can buy in the UK are generally multi-lingual - English and French or English and Spanish, or all three, being common combinations. The measurements given in English are in imperial, in the other languages metric.

The reason I'm mentioning this is because it's utterly infuriating when you note down the amount of fabric you need from the English instructions, only to discover that every fabric shop in the country sells fabric by the meter. Especially as clothes sizes are different between the UK and various European mainland countries...

I had to cancel a credit card yesterday. I tried to buy something online and discovered that the website was a fraud. (It's actually the first time I've gotten burned like this, so I suppose I should consider myself lucky.) Now I have to wait for the bogus charge to be posted to my account so I can dispute it. The nice lady at the bank's support line could see the charge, but since it hadn't been "posted" yet, she couldn't do anything about it.

It really has to happen. The govt has already auctioned of the "regained" spectrum and taken money on it.

This is also like another MANDATED thing that has never happened, that is

STOP PRINTING THE $1 NOTE!

But, once again, similar to your wife and metric everyone thinks there is just no way they could get along without it. How it will be such a chore to carry $1 coins...

I think some people don't like change.

Do people realize how SIMPLE the metric system is. We are so used to using BASE 10 numbers... measuring everything that way would be so much easier. The 2-2-4 thing wouldn't be needed any more. You just have to remember a few prefixes and you've got it. My only probably would be the temperature scale, since the number just seem so close together for such big differences. But, I could get used to that to get the benefits of all the other.
