Still loving it so far! My only issue is in keeping enough good beans on hand to grind. I've found that balancing the convenience of ordering online against driving to distant stores isn't as easy as it seems. Flavor and size variety are equally poor, but online prices are getting hard to justify. I only wish I lived near a local roaster.

I'll say! Ordering two pounds of Major Dickason's online would be triple what I'd pay in a store. I can't justify it, even though the quality of what I buy locally can be inconsistent. (I'm working on a good bag now, though. ) Unfortunately, it means I don't experiment with other types and blends, because the premium over what I can get locally is too high.

However, you make a good point. There are a lot of local roasters around here and I need to expand my horizons. Right now I'm dependent on the kindness of others for shopping (not that they'd object to taking me where I'd like to go, but I figure everyone's sick of me by now), but once I'm in charge of my own destiny again I'll have to start experimenting.

I've become dependent on the kindness of others, too--but in a different way. Friends and family have been instructed to import some of their local fare when they travel from their teeming metropolis (metropoli?) to visit me in podunk.

Just had a Coke Zero, by the way.

I've found that I end up buying Peet's in 5-10 bag quantities. Bags other than the first go directly into the freezer. Where they keep _quite_ well. The mix is usually 2/3rds Major Dickason's, and one or two of a couple of others, whatever takes my fancy.

By buying in largish quantities, the shipping is free. I used to add in tea to the order if it needed filling up, but now that Peet's has abandoned any pretense of providing quality tea, I just make sure I'm at the minimum for free shipping. By buying direct from Pee'ts, I start out with the absolutely freshest beans. Keeping them in the freezer is far better than getting a bag that's been sitting on a grocery shelf for who knows how long, and in someone's warehouse for a good while before that.

Drinking Peet's this morning - Major Dickason's Blend.

Thanks. I meant to ask if you bought direct or not.

Yup. Though I have been known to take a swing by the Peet's store in Redmond, WA when I'm in the area. But now that they don't have much in the way of tea I care about, that's kind of less interesting.

Switching to some of my remaining Peet's Lion Mountain Keemun for the rest of the day.

Some generic, medium-roast Guatemalan coffee. Fairly indifferent about it.

Genmaicha in my cup. Yummy.

I have to admit that I am less finicky about my coffee then I am my tea. I buy good coffee, Peets and the like, but I buy it at the grocery store.
