Varying issues are:
1) unresponsive touch screen. Have to touch two+ times to get response.
2) multiple page turns with one tap.
3) not going into sleep when quick sliding the power switch. Instead going to main menu, and touch screen becoming unresponsive. Have to put unit to sleep again and wake up to restore operation.

Kobo Aura HD did not have these issues prior. Just wondering.

Thanks.
After a factory reset nothing is left of KSM. Is your device now running the same firmware version as it did before you factory reset it?

Tanks Ken. That's what I thought. No evidence of the two folders you mentioned of. So I'm clean. Strange coincidence with the issues i am having. Oh well.

Good point Tshering. I think it's a newer firmware.
Cheers.

Hi, I have the Kobo One with firmware 4.1.7729.

It is the first time I would like to install KoReader, so I tried installing KMS08 first (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ostcount=221):
- Downloaded KSM08_ext_aura_one_02c
- Downloaded KBStartMenu_08
- Took kbmenupngs from the second download, moved it to the Kobo, and restarted. Verified that I saw the thumbnails
- Took KoboRoot.tgz, moved it to the Kobo, and waited for a restart.

Then, I just booted right into the normal OS.. Never saw a notion of KMS or nickel. Tried the same with the normal KMS (so not the aura one version), to no avail...

Any ideas?

EDIT: aha, I found https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=221 to be a bit confusing. At first it is mentioned that KMS08 should already be installed, but later it is said that 'if KMS08 is already installed, you MIGHT try to...'. So I assumed it would be better to install the special KMS08 for aura directly.

Anyway, it seems to be updating now.

masterb,
I am sorry for the confusion. The correct sequence is:
  • install the regular KSM 08, as described in the first post. After the installation KSM should run on your device, but missing some functionallity. At this point do not forget to select "tools" > "activate" > "set runmenu settings.msh" > "always" (as described in the first post).
  • "start nickel"; when nickel is running, connect via usb to the pc; install the patch for Aura One.

@tshering, just to mention, it is not a big deal, but first link to supposedly first post is actually link to KA1 patch (both links are same).

Hi there, I'm new to this forum/thread and to kobo readers in general.

I was quite sceptical about buying an ereader because of the poor PDF rendering. KSM an KOreader swept my doubts away. Your work is really amazing! Thanks a bunch for your dedication, your hard work and for sharing it!

Naturally I've a few (beginners) questions:

* Is there a repo of the complete source? I see this was asked once before, but maybe it changed since.
* If there is none, is there another way to get hands on the complete source (including the source of the binaries)? I could find the source of a few of them by digging through the forum and links within, but for the bigger part I didn't find something with substance.

I just did a fresh installation of KSM8, Coolreader and KOReader on Kobo H2O which went like a charm when following the the fine documentation. Thank you (again) for your very fine work which makes reading on the kobo a real pleasure.

However a few questions popped up after the installation:

Is it possible to start automatically into coolreader after the timeout? Occasionally I find myself in Nickel when forgetting to interact with the device in the first 20 seconds or so.

Is it possible to deactive the sleep cover function? My sleep cover turned out to be a bit annoying: when bending the left "page" around 180° (for reading onehandedly) it puts the reader into sleep mode...

@ringogasukidesu

Welcome to the forum! I am glad you like KSM. As for the code, I have not yet decided whether I will publish/share it, and when.
By the way, I like apples too.

I am glad you still like KSM. In order set coolreader to auto start:
Find in .adds\kbmenu_user\confoptions\ksm_ini_options.txt
Code:
ksmAutoselectoption=start_nickel
ksmAutoselectoption=start_koreader
and add below the following line (use a unix-style editor)
Code:
ksmAutoselectoption=start_coolreader
Then (in KSM home), select "configure" and set in the group [general] ksmAutoselectoption=start_coolreader
If you never used "configure", you might have a look at this post. If you have trouble with it, come back here. Maybe there is some post that has a better general description of how configure works. I cannot find one now.

As for your problem with the sleep cover; KSM does not use it. You have to disable the usage of it in each application, nickel, KOReader, Pbchess/Coolreader, KOReader.

@tshering

Who doesn't
Thanks for the welcoming!

I hope you decide in favor of sharing your code.
To be honest, something in me twitches and quivers every time I'm using binaries for which it's impossible (or at least really hard) to verify their immaculate intend.

What are the reasons against sharing your code?
Of course it's your code and your decision to make, so don't feel obliged to answer at all!
I'm just curious, because I can not think of any.

Since there is currently a new firmware available, I would like to remind you on how to install it under KSM.
As soon as the firmware files are on the device, you will see a new entry on the KSM main menu, "handle update files". Choose it, and then select "install partial update." Do not select "install update", or this will disable KSM.

I am glad it works for you. However, I would like to mention that the original idea behind the autoselect option was a safety concern. If for some reasons (for instance because of a changed kernel after a firmware update) KSM happens to be unresponsive, you would just have to wait until nickel starts to have again a responsive device; having KOReader started automatically might also give you a chance in such an emergency case. But since KSM and PBChess/Coolreader use the same screen and touch drivers (KSM uses the drivers provided by Sergey), PBChess/Coolreader will fail to work, if KSM fails.

Thanks for mentioning that. Perhaps it would be advisable to remove "autostart_coolreader" before firmware upgrades, for security reasons.

In the last 1-2 years I have avoided fimware upgrades though, because didn't add anything I was interested in. So that is not such a big issue for me.
