Do You Use the Leather Protector?

I kept it on at first, because I thought it looked neat, but when reading in bed it just got in the way, so I took mine off.

Now, when I go somewhere should I put it back on? I take the reader in my backpack for school occasionally, and I don't put the leather protector back on. It seems to be a relatively sturdy piece of technology, and I don't go chucking my backpack down the hall way or anything.

Just wondering what everyone else does with the flap.

OH GOD PUT IT BACK ON!

The screen NEEDS protection, especially in your backpack. It will break (I honestly can't believe it hasn't already).

I don't like the way the metal feels, and I find it easier to hold when it's in the stock leather case, so I never take it out.

Also, if you think it gets in the way, fold the left side of the cover behind the Reader. It might be a little tough at first, but it breaks in.

Okay. Putting it back on right away, lol. Or at the very least for taking it places.

On a side not, can the screen only be damaged by physical means? Can it get hurt from overexposure to light, like sunlight?

It starts to fade (I think) in bright sunlight, but I don't know about permanently.

FYI you should still be careful with it even in your backpack.

I keep the cover on, but when I go out with it in my shoulder bag I have a metal case that some DVDs came in and it's almost exactly the right size. Unfortunately it says 'Mickey Mouse in Black and White' on the front, together with a picture of Mickey and Minnie. A bit inappropriate as I'm reading 'War and Peace'.

Just got the reader case from WaterField. I like the bare metal feel and needed protection in my backpack. It is perfect. looked at alot of covers and this one really fit the bill.

If you don't like the looks of the stock case, I can recommend the Tuff-luv cases. I-nique makes them. There is another thread about them but they come in black and pink leather and flips up so the side wouldn't be in the way and most of the medal is covered with the leather. I like it because the medal is cold half the time so its sort of like having a leather skin for the reader. When you flip the cover back to read , it snaps in the back so nothing is in the way while you read.

Here is a link :

I think you can get them on amazon as well.

Are you sure you can get it on Amazon, because I can't find it.

You can find it on Amazon UK, but not Amazon.com. And, to save you the effort, the one listed on Amazon UK won't ship outside of the UK. (At least, it wouldn't ship to the US or South Korea).

They do also have them on ebay, of which the price is almost the same, depending on the exchange rate - the shipping is much cheaper, but the cost of the cover is more expensive. I ordered mine from ebay a couple of days ago and they shipped it eight hours after I bought it, so that was impressive.

I use the tin case from `Terminator 3' for my PRS500. On reflection, I think Mickey Mouse would be slightly less embarassing

But, seriously...

As a long-time PRS500 user, and a recent PRS505 user, I find the stock case of the PRS505 completely unusable. The 500 case just folded neatly behind the unit when it was in use. If I try to fold the 505 case, the whole units slides over on its mountings, exposing a nasty hard thin edge of case all down the right hand side. I find it very uncomfortable to hold.

Am I doing something wrong? I was going to make a new 500-style case from leather and Velcro it onto the back of the 505. But maybe I'm just not using the new one properly?

Do you mean the left hand side? I fold mine no problem.

No, the right. Perhaps it's just me. If I wasn't already used to the 500, I probably wouldn't even notice that the 505 feels ungainly.
