DG, remember in the Country Poll when I asked about Québec not being in the list? Well even if the Sonies are available in Canada they still aren't in Québec. Is that not a reason enough for separation?
I would most certainly agree!! How odd. Is there a reason Sony isn't available in Quebec?

Well ! I think it has to do with French copyright laws, but I could be mistaken. That should not be a reason to penalise our Anglo population which is sizable.

I've noticed that Mobileread has a very sizeable (majority?) of users that aren't from the United States, so that may play a big role in why the Kindle isn't doing so well in this poll.
About a third of Mobileread reader's are from the US, according to the recent poll posted here.

And while the PRS-505 is distributed in other countries, this is a quite recent move.
When I purchased my PRS-505 in September 2008, it was at this time still not available in the UK or in France. For most of its life, the PRS-505 was a US (and Canada also I guess?) only device.
The PRS-500 was never available outside of US/Canada either, but despite its age it got a very decent score too, almost to the level of the kindle.

I guess that kindle's owners do not visit Mobileread as much as other device's owners. This is weird as Mobileread is pretty much the more important ebook related website I know along with Teleread

Or that perhaps why Amazon is not releasing their numbers

I'm thinking you are correct about this. It seems they prefer to stick with the Amazon Kindle discussions forum, which is sad, because there is so much to learn here.

OR, maybe most Kindle owners simply want to read books, are satisfied with downloading directly from Amazon, and aren't interested in anything else.

And isn't this what an e-book reader should be?

I suspect most Kindle owners end up on one of the Kindle-only community sites. It is a shame that they miss out on the synergy created here by bringing together owners of so many different device.

Actually, that is 307 voters, not votes. The vote count is around 500.

I just bought an Acer Aspire One at Wallyworld for $294. I wanted something besides my old pda to read with backlight. The prs 505 is great and I have the lightwedge, but sometimes I wanted to read on the computer. The laptop I have is too heavy for reading in bed, so I been going back and forth on this little netbook. It did exactly what I had hoped it would. I installed the ebook library software and all my lrfs, fired up a few books and thought I would have to scroll up and down to read. Nada, just go into full page mode and the book sized itself to the small screen and for me was readable. I hope I still like it next week

Didn't follow all posts in this thread so it may have been mentioned above by someone else:

As an old (since Palm III on various devices) PalmOS user and proud Tapwave Zodiac owner I of course can't agree to be thrown in a pot with this iphone- / ipod-thingy crowd ....

Ah, just as well ...

The next poll should ask "Which Devices do you actually use to read ebooks?", which will be a subset of this poll "Which Device Do You Have?"

Now that would be truly interesting!

Even though I "own" several PDAs and have access to an iPod Touch, I no longer use them to read full novels/ebooks. I'm spoiled by the larger screen size of my dedicated ebook readers, so if you had asked what devices I actually use, then the poll results would be a bit different...

Thanks for this (and your other) poll!
