New Overdrive coming and it is awful - Page 19

Could be Overdrive updated their ADE server software and that is what broke ADE 1.7.2. Google Play Books also does not work with ADE 1.7.2 and needs at least ADE 2.0.1.

We already know the problem and the solution. There's no need to try again. The T1 and Reader for PC won't work because they use ADE 1.7.2.

Are you using ADE 2.0.1.78765? I've never had this error with this version of ADE for Windows.

I have not had any problems with using the Sony Reader for PC software - I just downloaded one book and returned another. Maybe the problems are not with all libraries?

Also, I just found I can once again access my loans, holds and wishlist via the PRS-T1. (I have not tried actually downloading a book directly on the PRS-T1 yet, as I had already used up all my loans via the PC software.)

So maybe the libraries are still working out the bugs of the new site?

I'm grateful for the discussion here, on two counts.

I was still running ADE 1.7 (if it ain't broke..., but it's broke), so I knew what the problem was when I tried a test download.

Very embarrassingly, I just passed along my T2 to a nephew who's computerless, so he could borrow from OverDrive. If the T2 also is broke (does anyone know?), I'll get him a Paperwhite and he can borrow books on his phone. But at least now I know to ask.

The NC library started working again tonight on my T1, so hopefully if your nephew isn't able to access via the T2 now it will be working again soon.

ADE 2.0.67532. Updating ADE to ADE 2.1 has made the trick, thank you. So you need ADE 2.1, no ADE 2.0

Bit the bullet and upgraded one system to 2.1. That cured the problem (which is at the Overdrive end; returning a book in the old version returned the license at the Adobe server, but didn't update the Overdrive info and thus not the library page).

As expected, the update screwed up my other returns (which weren't working anyway, at this point, in the older version) for books borrowed and not yet returned. So, almost no new books for the next week, anyway, while I wait for loans to expire.

The new interface, tho, is horrid. And no way for the user to set any preferences, so every time it is opened, I have to resize, move and resize columns, etc, if I plan to be in it for long. Ugh.

Tried again this morning and download 1.7 failed. Installed 2.0.1.78765 and was I able to download.

Problem solved. Download the eBook again from Overdrive and then return it.

Glad it's now working for you.

So now we know (for sure) why the T1 and Reader for PC don't work any longer.

Sharing the dislike for ADE 2.0. I liked how stripped down 1.7 was; it seems to me they've added eye-appeal but reduced basic functionality. Yes, I'm a Luddite.

A complaint on another OverDrive front: the description no longer states unabridged/abridged for audiobooks. I checked one out last night and it wasn't until I saw the length on my device that I knew the awful truth. I don't want to listen to abridged books. So now I'll either have to check the length at Audible first or else borrow, download, return if I'm deceived.

The ADE discussion is an interesting conversation. For an additional wrinkle: I'm running ADE 1.7.2 for Mac, and have successfully downloaded a couple or three DRMed epubs from the new Overdrive.
